Thread: Are merchants receiving these changes because of JtL?

Please do not delete this thread. It is a logical question being posed. I am not being rude, inconsiderate, or inflammatory. I am simply trying to understand the purpose and (more importantly) the timing of these changes.

Many players were told that many of the changes we have been asking for would have to be delayed due to the importance of JtL. There are many issues in the game that require attention but only limited resources to dedicate to them. Yet, prior to JtL, this large effort is being put into merchants. I'm not trying to suggest that merchants are not important. In fact, I feel merchants are one of the most important classes simply because SWG is a true player run economy. However, I don't really see how these changes are more vital than many of the combat or GCW concerns. Unless it is about timing.

JtL is slated for an October release. Why would merchant need changes before then rather than combat, GCW, or even Jedi? Is this about freeing up databases before JtL launches? JtL is going to require an initial purchase (approximately $30), but will not result in additional monthly fees. Because of the nature of JtL, there will be an extremely large demand for new servers and server workloads. Since no additional monthly fees are going to be introduced, it would appear that SOE is going to have to pay for these additional server requirements without passing these costs onto the players.

Is that what this is all about? I'm not trying to cause trouble or insinuate that you are doing anything wrong. I'm simply trying to understand why these changes are occurring now as opposed to after JtL. SOE has repeatedly stated they are "under the gun" and that only vital changes will get addressed until JtL is out of the gate. I can't see how these changes are vital unless they are necessary because they do actually relate to JtL. If this "is" the reason, then players should understand that.

Are players being given these changes to accommodate the increased server demands of JtL?

Truisms are true, hold on to that! The solid world exists, its laws do not change. Stones are hard, water is wet, objects unsupported fall towards the earth's centre. With the feeling that he was speaking to O'Brien, and also that he was setting forth an important axiom, he wrote: Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows.
