Thread: Just a theory, but a scary one at that...let me know what you all think.

Okay, reading through all of these posts, as well as making a few myself, I have come to see a recurring theme:

"If this nerf goes through I am quitting this game...Hello (either) World of Warcraft or EQ2"

Now, the first of the games doesn't disturb me much, it's a new game from a popular genre, and is not run in any way by SOE.

The second game is what disturbs me. It will be a second real installment of the EQ genre that has made SOE millions over the last 8 or so years that it's been out. SOE owns the rights, exclusively to EQ and EQ2 and stand to make a huge profit from its release...yet one month before its release there is an expansion coming out for another SOE product that they have to SHARE rights and profits from...yes I am talking about JTL. Now here's the thing...SOE had another product, Earth and Beyond. This, like SWG, was a joint venture with another company, not a completely SOE run and profited from game. The game started out pretty well, then came the nerfs...within a few months the game was a mere shadow of what it had been, then "tada" at the lowest point for the game, EQ gets (I believe) the Shadows of Luclin expansion...which people promptly buy up in droves (I worked for gamestop and best buyat the time so I saw this happen first hand) and one recurring theme was, goodbye EAB, a nerfed to hell game...hello EQ and yet another expansion. Now does this scenario somewhat sound familiar to anyone at all? I'll just leave that one lay...basically folks, to me, if this game goes under, if this nerf is activated, I am gone from this game AND from buying SOE products completely...Why? Because I refuse to patronize a company that will take great products and ideas and internally torpedo them in order to cause their "sole liscensed" products to look more attractive...essentially cause a mass exodus from the game that is the competition (even internally) to the game they stand to make the most money off of.

Let me know if this sounds valid...if so, I propose that if you do leave this game, do not patronize SOE...why? Because this will happen again and again...People sink their time and hearts into the lives their avatar lives in this game, and a company that doesn't care about the customer and their desires all for the sake of profiting from the destruction of those avatars and the time spent invested in them doesn't deserve to exist.

Thanks

Pretty sure that SOE had absolutely nothing to do with E&B. That was an electronic arts game I believe.

I don't put any stock in your theory. The Star Wars franchise has much more potential than EQ. SOE would do best to make SWG the best game in the world and do spin offs:

SWG Episode 1

SWG The New Republic....

Things like this happen all the time in big business.. Its a theory and you very well could be right.. If this game gets the shaft large core it is most certainly my intention to boycott all Sony products.

We are Proctor and Gamble.. We like your business, Majesta tissues.. We have purchased your company and now started changing the quality of the product you have grown to like thereby force switching customers into buying alternate P&G products.. now 5 yrs later Majesta tissues are no more due to quarterly losses seen for the past 36mths.. but you can buy one of our other popular brands.

Its a good theory and for sure it is a really really good way to make money in the eyes of the high brass at SOE..

SWG becomes a very unenjoyable game to play in the ways of PVP and PVE.. People look to another game.. Well EQ2 sounds pretty cool so $60 x XXXXXXXX people (x15per month)

At the same time JTL targets an entirely different market.. The twitch based player and trust me it will be a huge and I mean huge hit making SWG's numbers seem pretty ok while the ground level play is BS and is pretty much abandoned JTL thrives and makes them money.

The ultimate idea.. If you want to run around a virtual world play EQ2.. If you want to play a twitch based space combat Sim JTL(SWG). - How huge was Xwing vs Tie fighter, Xwing, Tie Fighter.. Makes sense

I would do the same thing if out to grab huge cash.

Just saying.. I honestly think that they are confident that by making one strong in one area and the other in another they can double their revenue if not triple.
