Thread: Dev's, stop Nerfing a broken profession before you fix it....
Or you will find a profession not being played. How many people are going to surrender their now useless merchant skills for something they can play without being punished because of a poorly designed database?
Merchant hasn't worked right since day 1. It didn't work in Beta. I don't think more than 25% of the entire tree was functional at any one time throughout its entire existance.
Its still broke, and now you are going to nerf it to an extreme last seen done to the BH and Commando's.
Fix it. We are not saying that we shouldn't have vendor fees. We should. We should not have to pay 3.2% of our stock value every day. What other profession pays that much on a daily basis? We are already forced to buy and maintain houses to use our vendors, sacarificing lots that we can no longer use for our actual crafting profession.
Hundreds of excellent suggestions have been made since the infamous Q nerf post, and since that post not one Dev response has been made concerning this topic. Not one. Not even a "we are aware of your feelings and don't care" post. I would respect that, since they wouldn't be sugar coating it.
Why bother asking for our input if you won't comment on it? Situations like this lead to nothing more than frustration on our part as we plead for any kind of response and then sit back and rant against the silence.
Customer service isn't just about fixing the problems, its also about communicating with your customers about thier concerns. You are failing on the customer service issue in a big way.
If the 275000 registered users is a real number, that corresponds to over 3 million dollars a month in revenue. Granted, it will take some time to turn an actual profit considering the number of years this product was (and still is) in developement, but unless you wish to see that number decline as frustration turns to anger and contempt I would stop and take a look at how you are corresponding with us, the paying customer.
Throwing us some player correspondants helped a little, but when those same correspondants say they can't get a response from the Dev's either, we lose faith in the one bone we had thrown to us.
So, if you want to cause more problems than you currently have then, by all means, implement the 1/1000th rule. Vendors will have their stock emptied, business will be done face to face, a great majority of 1cr items will begin to fill the database as the savvy and disgruntled place them on vendors (each for different reasons), and you will be worse off than you were. And if this really is about a money sink, you will lose that too.
And on the topic of money: The economy is officially out of your hands. It left your control when the game went live. It belongs to us now, and by trying to influence the economy based on what you believe will only upset the players. The only thing you can do for the economy is insure that no more exploits are allowed to damage the economy further. Otherwise, keep your hands off and let us fix the economy or at least get it to a workable level. No, you will not be almost able to buy your own starship for 10000 credits like the movie said, but we are willing to overlook that small inconsistancy. It is insignificant compared to the major ones such as invincible Stormtroopers and the like.
Fix the broken professions, then see if you even need to worry about the economy. Chances are time is all the economy really needs.
My views are mine alone. The opinions expressed in the above post are.
Glorious post. The merchant profession is so poor at this point. From losing items, to pissed off customers that cant retrieve what they buy, the disappearing items and so forth. I really love that I have to run back to my house everyday and take my merchant off the planetary map and then readd her.... because when they reboot the server it forgets about it and your not there any more.
But instead of fixing something very simple as that.......... lets fix the economy, yea thats it.. that shouldnt be too hard. We cant fix the missing items in the stockroom, we cant have your vendor posted on the planetary map after a server reboot.. but hey.. lets tackle the economy
I sincerely hope the dev's look at this thread and see that its not a flame.. but in fact its the truth and it will only help them if they listen to the customer base.
Another thing while i am it.. I am really confused on how to get xp being a merchant. I am one box away from master merchant and have no idea how the xp is calculated. As soon as I think I have it..... it changes. I used to get xp for each vendor.. but thats random. I used to get xp for each new person that comes in my store which was offset by a one hour timer. That is no longer the case. I used to get xp when somone enterred my store and paid a fee. That worked for a while.. now its sparatic at best.
Before nerfing atleast get the xp straightened out. This is not too much to ask. Every other profession knows exactly how to get experience and its pretty straightforward, how come our profession cant be straightforward? Just figured I would throw that in there while I was thinking about it![]()
Well said, and certainly needed sating. This profession has had bugs, bugs, bugs, but I have endured a lot because I enjoy running my shop and crafting.
This profession needs a lot of fixing before the nerf bat is swung! I cannot agree to vender charges when all the problems and bugs that toture many of us are still in place. If there is a storage abuse problem, then think of a way to deal with the exploiters WITHOUT hurting those of us who have been plugging away skill points and legitimately running a business. Money sink? Then fix something first....like the insurance issue. Many of us are constantly hit with maitenance charges for equipment and shops, so if ANY fees will be in place, make it the buyers end.
Well, an answer was recieved concerning the Vendor Fee's...sort of. Its a start, but it's still not good communication.
Vendors are still stealing items, money, sales. My medium house will not hold more items than the small one that it replaced...two more lots with no point. I can populate my house with identical clones as NPC vendors remain the same no matter how many Human Male Vendors I make.
Oh, and redeeding a small Naboo (with over 3k in maint) house results in no house and no deed. If I am real lucky, I won't be invisible after the redeed.
Basic Bugs that should have never made it out of Beta and we are trying to work around them day after day. The frustration continues to mount and there is no relief in sight.
And still no word posted in this forum. If it isn't on test center (where Vass knows what communication means) or the SWG discussion forum, a post doesn't seem to be noticed. I am beginning to wonder if it is even worth it to post anything outside of SWG discussion.
It was a holiday weekend here in the States, so I don't expect a whole lot til Tuesday or Wednesday, but somehting should have been said BEFORE the weekend. And it is not just this forum. A lot of professions are begging for a response to very real concerns about the basics of their respective professions.
Communication. That is what we want, and quite frankly deserve as well. We deserve it because we are still here trying to make this game work, even though we are paying for the privellage now.
