Thread: Items disappearing after vendor purchase bug STILL exists???
Why haven't they fixed this??? I just lost 3 house deeds.
Oh, silly me. I forgot. After every single vendor purchase, you need to log out for 3 hours. Then log back in and wait 3 more hours before you move one step. I guess I'm just way too impatient to play this game.
Ok, I'll share what I know about the bug.
For as long as I've been merchant (since just a few weeks from launch, I think), people have been losing items purchased from my vendor after traveling. I would get regular messages from customers stating that their items had disappeared. It happened so often that I had a pat answer for the problem from their first tell: "Um, something weird just happened." "Did you just lose items after taking the shuttle? If so, log for long enough for your avatar to disappear (15-20 mins) and the items will come back. Do file a /bug on it, please." That solution always worked, and they'd always get their items back.
Recently, within the last few weeks,it started happening with server boundaries. There is a server boundary about halfway between my shop and Coronet. Naturally, many of my customers head to Coronet soon after purchasing items from my vendor. They lose their items, sometimes ending up naked (truly naked, no skivvies, even) if they were wearing something they just bought. The same solution works, logging out for long enough for their avatar to disappear brings their items back.
There is some danger of permanently losing items if they don't have enough inventory space for all the items when they do log back in. If they don't realize they've lost something, then go buyor lootsomething else, they could run into this. I usually include a warning about this now as well.
I overheard a conversation with an in-game CSR about the issue, and he suggested that people wait for a half hour after purchasing before crossing a server boundary. That may be why some people encounter the bug and some don't; they spent some time on the same side of the boundary before heading across. Since I'm so close to a boundary, my customers almost always hit it before the half-hour mark.
So, moral of the story: don't cross a server boundary (if you can even figure out where it is) for a good long while after purchasing items, and if you do lose items, don't pick up anything else and log out for at least 15 minutes to get them back.
Actually, even if you just remove an item from your vendor without actually selling it you can lose it as well. Happens to me all the time.
Interesting....I too noticed that items poofed after taking the shuttle, until recently and now it seems they vanish shortly after leaving the store (presumably crossing a zone boundry).
Unfortunately, I am on one of those invisible boundries. I would say 1 out of every 5 sales vanishes. So far I have not had anyone's items permanently vanish....they return the next day. This includes a guildmate who bought several items from me which went into his already full inventory (one of those 67/60 bugs you get sometimes). When they vanished, he logged, and then came back to the overstocked inventory. He managed to switch some things around with the backpack, and eventually those items also came back.
This is beyond frustrating though. And makes us look really stupid ![]()
