To get merchant xp, plop down a vendor in a house you own. You can't do it any other way, as vendor rights are broken except in your own home.

The Merchant class is the most broken class in game right now. There are a few features that work.. most of the time.. like multiple vendors.. and Advertising I.

Nobody really seems to know how merchant xp works. You seem to get 150 to 400 xp an hour, use of your vendor may or may not effect it.. it comes in bursts, so don't expect to be able to watch it. Some people claim to get 10k xp a day, though none have told us what they do to facilitate that.

Have fun!

select Create Vendor from the house terminal and it appears in your INVENTORY. Go to where you want it, drop it, fumble with the clumsy positioning system until it's facing the right way, Initialize Vendor from radial menu on it, pay the maintenance, and Use Vendor to load items onto it.

I mastered Merchant this way:

Put a vendor in your house that others can look at.

Place an entrance fee on that house set to 1 credit and set timer to 15 minutes (the minimum).

Have a friend enter your house (they have to accept the 1 credit fee) and view the vendor items (they don't have to make a purchase, just view it).

In my experience you get 50 xp for them paying the entrance fee, and 50 more for them viewing your vendor.

Once the 15 minutes has expired they can return and repeat the process.

If you can get several people doing this for you at once, the xp gain adds up rather quickly.

I have heard (not confirmed) that if you have multiple vendors, they can view each one for xp.

If you are in a PA, this can go quickly..ask your mates to logoutside your house so they get you some xp when they login and again when they logout..not too much of a hassle if you live in a city near eachother.

With the recent patch, vendor xp over time works fine for me now. I have management 4 and all 6 vendors placed in my Player city cantina, with an afk dancer there 24-7 so my vendors always exist. I ahve 3 small houses around teh cantina with a 1 cr 15 min access fee. I have Visitors run in my houses 50xp Each and use 1 of my vendors in the cantina (50xp each). Thats 200 xp per visitor that can be repeated every 15 mins. On top of that i get 150xp per vendor per hour = 900xp per hour. I generally rack up about 15-25k of xp per day this way. It should be more but sometimes the vendor xp overtime bugs out and you wont get it for a few hours.

and before anyone asks all known merchant exploits have been fixed just short of placing 10 small houses in a circle and getting some poor schmucks to run in and out of them for hours on end, but hey its your million bucks do with it what you want.

All you real merchants have my condolences man I hope they fix your profession soon.

I'm finding Merchant is the simplist, yet longest, to work with. I plopped a vendor down....in my PA Hall.

Loaded it up with the misc garbage I had just laying around taking up space. Went from 0 merchant to getting novice in about 24 hours (Nice to have a Vehicle Merchant in the same room) so I get free advertising (My right as the guild leader...hehehe) People check my vendor because it's called cheap stuff. Most expensive thing I have on there is 2 crates of Stim Ds with 42 med use (I only have 40 med use on my main character) so I can't use them. Everything else is cheap.

Merchant XP isn't rolling in....but it's coming.
