Thread: 'Word of Mouth' suggestion from a non-merchant
So you ask, limited number? Sure, limit the number of vendors placed in a city, but allow only one vendor per merchant.
If they do make a bazaar type thing, the dev's should definetly force players to Keep business4 or whatever to place a merchant. None of this , place it and then drop the skill stuff. No,.better yet,..you HAVE to be a Merchant with vendors I to even get in! Becasue they dont allow those little vendor droids, heh. Heck,.let's just make it Vendors4 as a requirement,.that way, maybe people will sell thier stuff to merchants to sell for them like they should! Gwar har har! Evil!

Sounds like the Everquest "Bazaar', which equals lag-city. Personally, I like the idea of looking around for vendors, making people travel and move around, keeps people from constantly hanging around the ports and whatnot. Plus I get to show off my house : )

They would like it up until the moment it took 5 minutes to retrieve something then they would stop using it. We keep trying to bring the sales back to the static cities and I'm not sure that is the answer. I think the answer is finding a way to clear the clutter of empty vendors and increase the ability for people to search for merchandise they want. Right now the global map is useful for finding a general "type" of merchandise but useless for finding specific items or prices. If we increased the ability for people to find locations for specific merchandise I think people would gladly travel to get it.
I don't think we need more traffic in static cities. Especially not heavily populated cities like Coronet.

Sounds like a good idea to me. However, I still think integrating a marketplace in NPC cities would be a wonderful idea.

What about allowing tents to be placed a bit closer to cities than the radius for all other player houses, that way the first ring of player placed building you will find around a city will be merchant tents, or designate a spot close to a city for tent placement only. that could get them out of the lag area, but give merchants a bit of a market advantage.
