Thread: Merchant nerf? What a horrid idea.

Can someone please explain to me how such a bright team of developers that could come up with such an awesome game as SWG, turn around and do something so simplistically retarded as deciding to nerf the vendors to save on their databases?

I am no merchant, but any fool can see that this will only serve to otherwise inflate an already over inflated in game economy. In fact, it will likely drive so many of the huge vendors out of the business that we'll be left with the small guys who do not have the resources and time to put into making quality crafted items .

I'll tell ya, I know we each chose our own professions, and have to live with them as long as we keep them, but it does take each and every profession in the game to keep the economy of the game in balance. So with that in mind, I am posting my protest of the merchant nerf. It's already hard enough for me to eek out a living as is. Instead, why don't you developers put forth your talent into fixing alot of the in game mechanics that remain broken (ie, craftable dot'd swords, warping, trade window bugs, and that remarkable memory leak that swallows up even the most powerful of all machines).

Else, we could all just choose Doom 3, I guess.

I strongly suspect that this is exactly what SOE is trying to accomplish. They believe that there are a handful of monopolies on each server in each market segment. It's not that another crafter can't break in, it's just that there is little reason to bother trying to compete against the weaponsmith with 12 experimentation points, a year's worth of resources, and 20 factories. That weaponsmith can still sell great product, but they will have to slow production dramatically and raise prices to match the new merchant limits.

I'm not saying that SOE's perception of the situation is correct, but I see this change as a direct attack on the big crafters.
