Thread: New Class Proposal: Looter

Given the great design concept of the merchant profession, which introduced the innovation that a player either has to spend skill points to sell items or get another player to sell their items for them, I had a great idea for another profession that would help out the combat professions in a similar way and I wanted some feedback for it:

Looter

Core game changes: no one will be able to loot a kill unless they have at least Novice Looter (prereq: Ranged Support IV and 520 AP).

Profession Description:Novice looters will only be able to loot a kill up to 50 times a day. Novice looters will only receive credits as loot. As they progress up the 4 loot trees, not only will they be able to loot more often due to the "Looting Endurance" tree, they will be able to loot more credits per kill via the "Loot Capacity" tree. Special items such as gong parts and badly damaged cdefs will become more common as the looter shimmies up the "Pocket Checking" tree, and taking a cue from the smuggler profession, all looters will love climbing the "Ueber Looter" tree which promises ueber loot but delivers absolutely nothing.

Master looters will be able to extract the maximum amount of credits from kills, up to 217 credits for Nightsister Elders and will be able to loot exotic items such as Stone Knives from Janta shaman. Also, the will get the ability to craft and deploy a special "loot distribution tent" where group members can be awarded their share of the groups loot, with no tally or explanation as to how their share was arrived at. Make sure you group with a "reputable" Looter!

The Master Looter will surely be the center of any adventuring group.

Total Skill Point cost: 63, unless you're a melee combat profession and then it's 92. Hey, who brings a knife to a gunfight anyway?

Ok, that was a joke. Satire, you know. But seriously. You know that no one would even consider a system like that for the combat classes right? I mean, why should they have to spend points to make money from the stuff they killed?

But then why should crafters have to sacrifice 63 points (or any points at all) to be able to sell what they made? This is my critique of the merchant profession as it stands after publish 10.

One star? That's it? I thought it was pretty funny, and it took a lot more work that most of the posts on these boards.

Kind of a silly concept....do i need Looting XP to look at a guy and steal his credits, clothes, or items? Utterly ridicolous. Stealing (Looting) is common sense and should not require any skills.

Yeah, the point of the post was to call attention to how silly it is to make crafters need to either spend skill points or rely on another player just to sell the things they crafted, given that should be their primary source of income.

I'd like to propose another class:

Nerf Victim

Prerequisite: $15/month for SWG.

Special abilities: Any skill points you invest in any profession will just add to the misery.

"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals and you know it."

Thanks to all who enjoyed this post. I'm surprised I didn't get more flames, but hey... maybe that means that I made my point in a way that didn't step on any toes?

heh, i knew exactly where you were going with that post as i got to about the third line. Some merchants are sittin on their high horses about people 'exploiting' merchant, and i suspect more than a few of them blame such 'exploiters' for pushing this nerf.

The fact is we are all paying to play this game and trying to get the most out of it that we can. Got a problem with the game blame the devs, not your fellow paying customers.

It is not uncommen for developers of any game to take such measures, to punish players the community for using something in a way it might not have been intended. This causes people to blame thoes who were using this 'feature' instead of blaming bad (or lack of) programming.

The game developers caused this problem, not the players. There are a lot of angry people who need to realise this.
