Thread: Intergalactic Trade Routes
Every time you gain one skill box of management, a trade route opens up for you. A trade route is simply the ability to travel directly from one planet to another, without hopping through stepping stones. For example, at Management I, you have the ability to go straight from Dantooine to Naboo.
These trade routes are simply extra shuttle paths with certain level requirements.
Benefits of this:
1) Merchants could travel much faster between vendors and harvesters, cutting down costs and time spent "working" in game.
2) Merchants could meet their customers in person, with far less hassle, thusly resulting in a higher percentage of sale assurance.
At present, I couldn't think of any downside to this.

The only problem I see is that they would have to change the way the travel/ticket system works otherwise I could (as a merchant) sell my direct tickets instead of using them myself. I also think that the travel system is designed as a "time sink" which would be subverted by this process. I don't pretend to understand the detailed design reasons for travel "time sinks" but they exist and this might run afoul of them.
That doesn't mean I dont' like the idea. Just rambling on about my thoughts on it. I personally like the idea of discounted travel for merchants and if they sold the tickest SO WHAT just creates a travel agency business model for merchants.

I saw some detailed discussions about the need for travel time sinks during beta but I don't pretend to remember or understand it. I only mention it because it probably comes in to play for these ideas.
