Thread: Feature Request: /vendorSave
Just like /mailSave, I would like to see a feature to save the inventory of my vendor (or all vendors) into a simple CSV file on my PC including the Vendor Name, Name of item, stats, list time, price, SERIAL NUMetc..
This would be simple and if in a CSV non-technical people could use Excell to open it.
I currently have scripts that parse all my E-mails and post them to a MySQL database and then we have a web site to list sales reports. Our guild crafters use this to choose what items to make next etc based on our 'demand'. But we are on the verge of a manual inventory control system, if we had /vendorSave that would be so much easier.
We have about 14 vendors and we sell everything under the sun so this would be veryhelpful.
And imagine this: If you had this file and items started dissapearing or your vendor went *POOF* you could use this as proof of the items all the way down to serial number and list time etc!
What does everyone else think?
I have not seen a top 5 yet for merchants are we doing that?

There is a top five for merchants but it came at the exact point that Marqie was leaving and I was coming in so it got compiled in a hurry based on feedback that was already on the boards instead of a general call for it.
I like the mailsave idea and have already mentioned it to the dev team during the discussions about the itemdeletion bug.
Cool, can you also mention /vendorSave as well? This is a GREAT idea!

Ack..I meant vendorsave in the post above where I said mailsave.
This would be a very useful addition (I'd prefer XML output if possible, or the option to choose the format though).
But I must admit Iam dubious as to whether it would be considered any kind of "proof" for SOE should items go *poof* from vendors...
And as per the other thread, I'd like to see a feature whereby we can target containers and issue a command to get a similar inventory of the contents, this would be of great benefit to me as a crafter with my resources.
For the record I don't support this because I feel it is "proof" of anything. I support it to allow users to have an inventory control system that doesn't consist of them typing everything in by hand. It doesn't prove anything but the first thing CSRs ask for when you have a vendor issue is a list of the items you have lost. This would help people keep lists of what they have for sale on their vendors. It would help others write import routines to allow you to keep track of your inventory in a database of some kind.
I think it is best for in ventory control, however if it had s/n's in it then you could use it as feedback to the CSR's so they can search db for items and see what the disposition was of that item (destroyed, destroyed by timeout etc.).
I REALLY THINK it needs to be something Excell will open that is why I vote CSV, I too would LOVE XML output but I don't want to deal with a pop-up box etc.and I think simple users should be able to get value from it. As it stands /mailSave is really a geek tool, humans cannot use it.
I have an alias I use right now to logout:
/alias lg /sit;/mailSave;/pause 5;/logo
Then I just hit /lg to log on every toon I have and get all the mail saved. I would LOVE to do:
/alias lg /sit;/mailSave;/vendorSave all XML;/pause 5;/logo
And have /vendorsave pop-up a dialog box for the *cough* less technical unless it had command line args.
Would be nice to point at a container and do the same but I expect they just wouldn't want to deal with that since those don't have sale price, time listed etc. stats. But I would really rather not have to TARGET the vendor to get it to dump. I would like it as above so I can just do it out of habit as I log out.
Funny thing is if we Don't get this I would vote for a new E-mail when I LIST SOMETHING that includes the Vendor's name, the item, the price and maube the s/n. Then I could use /mailSave to push them out.
Also I would vote for the Vendor E-mail's to include the s/n of items that are sold. It's cheap it's easy and would make for PERFECT sales analysis and inventory control.
Also can someone ask them to include QTY in the E-mail not {description}{sp}{sp}{sp}{sp}{qty/charges} because that is hard to parse, you never know if you sold a crate or a single item with charges.. sort of dumb if you ask me. Really wish it would be: {descr}{sp}s/n: {S/N}{sp}qty: {1 or crate size}
Excellent idea and would be very useful for putting a reasonably current inventory on a web site. However, with all the effort being put into doing that, it seems like an in-game feature that listed current inventory with prices and vendor locations is what merchants really want and what would give the class a real advantage in selling goods.
This isn'te really about selling good so much as it is about tracking them. At least that is my impression.
