Thread: Why a merchant?

Okay, I got business III, one vendor all sweet and nice. I'm a master doc, got a newly opened shop, but I do okay considering not many really knows about it yet.

But why should I be a merchant? Is there any point in it or just a big waste of skillpoints?

Lets say I have a million credits and right now I go in zero when buying all my meat, making stuff, doing the harvester thingies, buying what I want and travelling. How will I then benefit from merchanting?

Though I must say, didn't know managing a shop was that fun.

merchant can get npc vendors, dress them up, get 6 vendors, register them on map, lower cost by a bit, and thats it.

Whilst merchants are not "broken" theres not awhole lot to be desired in that profession. A big waste of skill points, if you ask me.

Merchants could use some Dev love, but we probably won't be getting much too soon. We just got the Merchant Tents which are pretty cool.

If you want to sell your products on different planets, you should get the Merchant Business tree so you can have more vendors.

You will use 49 Skill Points to have 6 vendors (Artisan/Biz/Merchant/Biz). Right now you can place those vendors, then drop the skill and your vendors will remain. They may not stay forever because this is a bug that should be fixed. Afterall, a Commando loses the ability to use a Flame Thrower after dropping their skills right?

The rest of the Merchant tree is pretty worthless unless you are playing a Merchant character. If you just want to sell some stuff that you craft, or resources you gather, there is no need for advertising or hiring more attractive vendors or placing tents.

Well you will properly like the reduced cost of running harvesters, if you only have one shop and have harvest on the rest of your lots. Marking your vendor on the map could bring you more business. And as said already more vendors for more shops or the ability to dress you vendors to look like doctors could also improve business.
If all you are interested in, is selling some products to make credits, then you can properly find a merchant that will buy your stim's in bulk and sell them on for an agree upon rate. However, if you like running one shop then you will properly enjoy running two even more.

the profession is broken and has been since launch. items disappearing and vendors disappearing isn't supposed to happen. there was even a time people could steal off vendors
