Thread: Question about present vendors and the upcoming fixing
As far as anyone knows, there will be no nerfs in the number of vendors you are entitled at each skill level. Because you're entitled to 2 vendors at novice merchant, you will keep the 2 vendors. Also, the item limit is intended to apply to each vendor, not your vendors as a whole (after all, who would want to have 6 vendors if you could only have 150 items regardless). Therefore, I think that if the nerf goes in as originally intended (which it won't) you will be entitled to 150 items on each of your 2 vendors.
However, I have no idea what will happen, should you drop your merchant skills and the devs decide to disallow non-merchants to retain their vendors.
In terms of other aspects - such as what will happen when the limit goes into effect, will you have to recreate your vendors, there's been no word on that (at least none that I know about.)
Fact remains that even if you drop ALL merchant skills, you can retain 'a' vendor simply because you get one at business 3 of the artisan profession.
What i would like to know is, regardless of item count on a vendor, will any or all vendor modifications gained throught mastering merchant still be present when merchant is dropped entirely ?
My point is that in spending the time to master the profession, alltho you no longer have the skills persay, the vendor that you have created should necessarily be nerfed down to a shiney silver wardrobe when you drop the skills, in the way that a master WS's 450-850 FT doesnt get nerfed down to a candle-like weapon usually found in a loot if and when they drop their skills.
gagh, late it is.
EDIT: shouldn't necessarily be nerfed, not 'should'
The planned item limit on vendors, from what I understand, is not 150 items total for all vendors, nor is it 150 items per vendor.. It is 150 items per selling region. So if you are operating 3 vendors in the Riverlands outside of Coronet lets say, the total for that group will be 150. Lets say in addition to those 3 you have another 2 vendors located in the Sumtir Plains, those 2 vendors will have a 150 item cap. Meaning -one player, 5 vendors, 2 regions, 300 items...
Themain reason for this, so I have been told, is that the SOE team did some projections concerning the unique item (Any item with a serial number) database. With the current rate of expansion it would cause havoc with the game's stability and performance. So its not really a nerf but more of preventive maint.

Can you point me to the post that details this because I didn't see that. I haven't heard anything about Region and from my knowledge of how vendors work I am not sure that is even possible.

Now that would be utterly awful, essentially encouraging merchants to run 6 shops and preventing mini-malls. I wouldn't bother with 6 vendors in the same shop if the aggregate limit were the same. Unless you wanted to run a whole lot of poorly-stocked shops, it takes any advantage out of being a merchant.
If they do this, I seriously would (for the first time) consider quitting.

Ummm.. if it's per region? That's an AMAZING nerf.
250 items per vendor and I can keep my 1000+ item shop running.
250 Per region? And there's no way i can stock any reasonable supply of weapons at any single store.
