Yea there was a period of time last year where I spent 6 hours a night restocking and managing vendors for a weaponsmith. I worked harder at that than I did my RL job.

I run about half that large..butI do it all solo. How do I structure an employee relationship that wont' result in me being totally taken advantage of?

I'll take my response in a PM if you don't want to publish your secrets in public.

I run the largest power corporation on Eclipse and currently have 26 employees/contractors with over 180 harvesters in our fleet... (not all operating currently).

With so many employees/contractors, I've had to begin keeping much more detailed records and the data that became availableamazed me. Projections in sales for 2004 are in the 1 to 1.5 billion credits range.

To actually see these estimates based on the data flabbergasts me as it wasn't ever my plannedintention to grow so big, but it just happened with a lot of recent reinvestment and expansion.

Where are the other billion dollar corporations who expect to post 1 billion plus in sales in 2004?

Not me I have no desire to be that big. I work hard when funds are low and slack off when they are high

I enjoy doing other stuff too much to devote that much time to it. I'm just steadily making enough to pay my bills and keep a healthy bank account.

That depends entirely on if I avoid the #1 killer of WS's on ahazi.

Hmm, 26 people - so some quick math has each person selling about 105k per day. Not a bad operation

I am currently doing some metrics for the merchants and crafters in my city. Obviously, its not really the same kind of comparison since we are not one coproration, but I think it will be interesting anyway. I am currently running a 1% sales tax for a couple days to fill up the coffers and also to measure the daily sales for the city. The last time I ran it a couple weeks ago, it was bringing in about 500k per day (so about 50 million per day in sales) - I think it will be slightly higher than that now, but we will see. 50 per day works out to be a little over 18 billion in annual sales. We currently have around 75 shops with probably an average of 2 people working out of each shop... if my math is right, that means the average merchant in town is bringing in over 300k per day in sales.

heh, i know what you mean chataka.. originally i wanted to be a bit bigger so I wouldn't have to tend stores as often and do daily harvesters runs... but now that i'm bigger, while i don't have to do daily harvester runs normally, I do have a whole new set of management duties to attend to in dealing and organizing the employees (can we say resource shift day is a nightmare.. it almost makes me cry). Anyway, I am slowly decentralizing the company now to others to share the massive workload. Hopefully I get it to the point where i can just go away and it will continue under it's own steam, but right now, it is way to dependent upon me performing most operations.. which takes most of my game-time

There's a resource company on Lowca with over 100 heavy harvesters pulling over 1 million units of various metals/ores a day, so at 3 cpu they'll make over a billion credits this year even if they don't expand.

/sigh knew i was in the wrong business.. hehe.. power doesn't make nearly as much as minerals... about half rate... but it's a niche and, for me, alot easier to manage since everybody needs power and I don't need to be concerned about learning about who needs what and what is best for certain professions (i'm not a crafter and hate the clicking)

I have been doing a little of both, but I am moving to contracting out all the crafting. In fact I will no longer be running the Power-up vendors. I will still be running another (maybe two) non power/resource vendor, but power/resources will be my mainstay. I am situated in a place I can sell items at an inflated price, so buying from others is easy. The problem I had with powerups is that I do not have enough time to stock it all. I was selling out every night. Now with it devided in three maybe we will be able to keep up.

I can't which is why I don't understand my more crafters don't embrace merchants. In my example that was exactly what drove the weaponsmith to me..she wanted to focus on making weapons not stocking vendors and worrying about all the restocking etc. She off loaded all of that to me and was much happier for it. I am not saying no one should do both, but you certainly shouldn't be complaining that you have too much to do or that you don't have skill points to do other things.

I have no interest in spending the huge amount of time necessary to run a billion credit corporations.

Not when I see how the time spent making millions in this game could be time spent making money in REAL LIFE!

I'm managing 40 lots and the 2 hours spend daily re-stocking my vendors and harvesters check are more than enough time sink.
