I agree that there should be in-game advertising of some sort. Your idea for displaying advertisements on the loading screen isn't a bad idea. Instead of having a list of vendors, how about you do something like vendor-of-the-day. For instance, as a Master Merchant you can design an add that will display in the loading screen for other players. This add gets put into a rotation. So, basically everyday there is a new ad in the loading screen. Or instead of everyday, maybe a new ad once per hour. It is a thought.

Now for my idea. I think it would be a nice idea to create some form of directory of vendors. Any merchant with Advertising III or IV would be able to place their vendor on the directory that is acessible to everyone else in game. I mean, lets face it... it can be a real big pain in the @$$ to find vendors selling the goods you need sometimes. So, by creating a planetary/galactic directory, yo make life a lot easier for all other players and you create a way to make some business for vendors. The directory could be located on the bazaars. Just head to a bazaar, click a Vendor Directory tab, and you can see vendors located in your region, planet, and galaxy. Think of it as a telephone book of vendors.

Tell me what you think, but be constructive with the criticism.

Master Merchants can pay a fee at every city's capitol to have a small message displayed on the loading screen when player's fly to that city. The message is only good for 2-3 days, and then must be renewed, or it could work like the global advert works, where you pay for x # of days. It would be expensive, so as not to create abuse. If there are ANY words that would normally be filtered out, the entire message will not be allowed to be displayed. The Merchant's name will be displayed next to the name on the loading screen, so players can report foul-language, or other offenses. Players can go to the capitol and examine the Advertisement Terminal to see the current ads.

Issues:

What happens if too many people want to advertise? You can only fit so much info on the loading screen.

Is there only one advertisement per "load"? Or should merchants have to... "Bid" in order to get ad-space. Just like real-life commercials, this could get very irritating. That is a consideration. Implementation might also be an issue, but that is for the Devs to consider.

This would make for another good money sink, and has potential to make that loading screen more interesting (or more irritating!).

Another similar idea, is Billboard structures. Just like Signs on houses, only the text is bigger and always visible when you are in range. They don't take up much space, and they could be customized to an extent for variety. They cost money to maintain, only merchants can place them, and it gives architects another item to craft. Also, they require the use of one or more lots.
