I reposted this at http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=economy&message.id=3392 as it is more of a Business or core system thing, Sorry.
Near where I live we have a open market call First Monday. The market is set up the first weekend of each month. I think that it would be neat to set-up something based off of this in the game.
1.Set up Naboo and Corellia to have a market once every four weeks. Set the two planets market times apart by two weeks, so that every two weeks there would be a market happening somewhere.
2.Market area would be in open air with a few Ranger style Large tents.
3.Set the Naboo market area just outside of one of the Imp strong hold cities.
4.Set the Corellia market area just outside of one of the Rebel strong hold cities.
5.Set all market areas to be a No build zone.
6.On the weekend of the market set the market area to a no spawn zone.
7.Market area would open for merchants two days before market weekend.
8.On market weekend there would be a cover charge for entering the market area. This could use a pop-up window like the one you see when enter some vendor houses.
9.Set-up two areas in the market, a NPC vendor market area, and a PC market area.
10.Near the NPC vendor market area, place a Market Coordinator NPC. Players with Novice Merchant can talk to the Market Coordinator to lease a NPC vendor.
a.Market Coordinator will give the player a waypoint to leased vendor
b.There should be levels of cost to lease, depending on the area of the market you want the vendor in.
c.NPC vendor would not count against the Total vendor count for player.
d.NPC vendor would only last for the weekend and two day market set-up time.
e.You could add or remove items from vendor while market is open, and the two day market set-up time.
f.Unsold items can be picked up from the Marker Coordinator after market is over.
g.Vendor would only sell items during the weekend market open time.

11.With the lease of the NPC vendor the Merchant will also be getting the small area (plot) of land around the vendor.
a.This would be very small and based on the cost of the lease for the vendor.
b.Higher the lease cost the bigger the plot would be.
c.Plots would be arranged in market style rows.
d.There would be a limited number of (plot, vendor) leases for the market. We have to draw the line some where.
e.Marker Coordinator would sell (lease) small items to be placed on the leased plot. Once the market is over you would not get the items back. Think of it like the new perks being added to the test center now. Items would be things like, tables, chairs, boxes, flags. You would loose these even if you keep them in your back pack.

12.The PC market area would have general sell, entertainment, and PA (guild, city) sign-up area. (Optional Idea: Factional sign up and pilot sign-up area)
13.The PC market area would have a stage for entertainers to perform on. Just as if they were in a cantina. (Optional Idea: Add NPC Stage Coordinator for entertainer quest)
14.In the PA sign-up area there would be a PA Coordinator. The PA Coord. would be just like the Market Coordinator to lease plots. Only Guild leader and Mayors could talk to the PA Coord. to lease the plots and set-up tables for recruiting.
15.Other Optional Ideas:
a.Set up a few race bots
b.Some kind of Chef Cook-off, or Food court for Chef only vendors.

c. Firework shows at night.
d.The Market placeable perks could by crafted and sold to one of market coordinators by a crafter, sort of like the NPC that buys ship parts. This would also place the crafters name on random items that are leased to the merchants.

Well I guess I got out everything I want to say. Do you think something like this could be pulled off? What other things could be added or changed to make this work? Do you think people would show up for a twice a month event like this? Should non- merchants be able to lease plots in the PC area or the NPC area. Should plot size be based of merchant skills, or cost or, both? Should it only happen once a month or more?
Thanks for reading.

Only thing....I never have liked the idea of "renting" vendors...but for this idea I think Merchants should rent the vendors to the newbs. Gives us something else to do to make money.

I really like this idea, the game lacks the interaction it once had. This may bring some of it back.
Ent. should get a 10% bonus to buffs and healing if they sigh up (find a way to boot afk'er's)
Any one could sell non merchs even
Merchs get an xp bonus for selling
