Okay, reading one of the posts about the revamp of the bazaar and his ideas for an auction terminal ... why cant we place items for auction on our own vendors? Really this would be an awesome feature. Take away the cap and add a 7 day limit to it just like it is on the bazaar. It shouldnt be that hard, and I would love this for some of the items that I aquire who's prices fluxuate s/a the new furnIV schematics or looted photos and adhesives.

I had an idea about this a LONG time ago.

I'd still like to see it happen.

In theory it sounds good, but I'm not sure alot of people want to wait 7 days for something. On the bazaar noone uses it except for advertising, so why would it work on a vendor ?

It's nice to have from a merchant point of view, but I'm not sure from a customers point of view.

People love auctions. Put in a buyout price and I think you have a good feature. Auctions go on in SWG all the time now they just need the help of forums to get it done.

That is because most everything that would be for auction, would go higher then the 6k cap on bazaar.

People do in fact still use it to start an auction via email, with item set at max price for all to see.

It is the cap restriction the hinders auction, and it is why people use the forums
(which to me is extremly messy. Most folks have odd listings, run times, do not specify starting or buyout. Itt'sgenerally poorly done. Mind that there are 3 or 4 who runexcellent auctions with updates and full info and pics but not many.

Really ? Weird, because on my server there are tops40-50 itemssold on the forums per day. That's about the same number as items sold in my shop alone on a busy day. For every 1 sale in an auction there are like 500 sales in shops, so saying that "auctions go on in SWG all the time now" is simply not true.

The problem with auctions is time : people are used to getting what they want when they want it, not 7 days later.

IMHO there are more important merchant issues then this.

yes there are, but it would be a nice feature to have as a merchant. i sometimes come across items that im unsure of the current social pricing of. being able to put items such as this up for auction in my shop would be very beneficial to me. im not saying that this should take presidence over the more important merch issues, but since it is already incorporated into the bazaar, im curious as to why they did not use it on vendors.

This is how I would like to see it work.

Auction Terminals placed in NPCities and placable in PCities.

Ability to place an auctioneer at N.Merch.

NPC/PC Auction Terminals - Think EBay

  • Buyer manipulatable only - No sales can be placed onto these terminals, only bids.

  • Buyer could choose the following options singularly or combined: a) Manually insert first bid. b)Choose to "auto-bid" based on thesellers increment schedule. c) Insert bid cap (absolute most that buyer is willing to pay for the item). d) Buyout (if seller has a buyout price listed, they buyer can choose to just buyout the item and skip the bidding process).

  • Item search functionality will be identical to the bazaar.

  • Auction run time can be anywhere from 1h to 7d depending on seller's preferences.

  • Buyer can veiw all items on auction across the galaxy from any Auction Terminal or Auctioneer.

  • Once auction is closed, the item will be delivered to the buyer if the seller has allowed for delivery. The buyer will recieve an email with the auctioneer's location and a notification of the win along with status of whether the item has been delivered or if the item is needed to be retrieved.

Auction Terminals

  • Only available after obtaining N.Merch and limitations based on skill.

  • Only one auctioneer available per merch with an item cap dependant on skill as follows (neither of which would count towards alloted vendor/item caps).

Item Cap Limitations: Nov.Merch = 10 items | Each Ad Box will increase item cap by 10 for a total of40 additionalitems at AdIV | Each Eff Box will increase item cap by 5 for a total of 20 additional items at EffIV | M.Merch = 30 items (*Max items available to auction would be 100 at master merchant).

  • When merch is placing an item up for auction they can set: a) Minimum Bid (no bid lower than this will be accepted for this item). b)Set a bid increment schedule (set amount for "auto-bids" of interested buyers). c) Set a buyout price. d) Delivery option (allowing the merchant to decide if the item can be delivered upon auction closed directly to the buyer or if the item will need to beretrieved fromt he auctioneer).Pricing will be skill dependant as follows.

Price Cap Limitations: Nov.Merch = 100k | AdI = 100k | AdII= 100k | AdIII = 200k | AdIV = 200k | EffI = 50k | EffII = 50k | EffIII = 100k | EffIV = 100k | M.Merch = No Price Cap (*Max NonMaster price cap would be 1m with AdIV and EffIV).

In conguntion with an actual auction system, they should remove the auction function from the bazaar so that non.merchants cannot abuse the system. Any non.merchant auctions would need to take place on the trade forums.

I never said it was a high priority. It never made my top 20 list. But if there are 50 auctions a day in a forum that is visited by less than 20% of the playerbase of the server then you have a feature that would appeal to some people. Even your numbers suggest 10% of sales or more might be acutions.

Its not a horrible idea. The auction that is in the bazaar today is a horrible idea but not because of 7 days..because it caps at 6k which means you can't auction anything anyone is willing to wait for. There could be variable times for the auctions and buyouts for those who want to pay a premium to get the item right now. Its a workable idea. Just because it doesn't appeal to you doesn't mean its not worth doing at some point.
