Thread: Merchants and A CASINO
i can't belive there is casino type gaming in hotels and cantinas. Merchants should be able to turn there shops into casino's just think of how well that would work for every one.
merchants could place diffrent gaming tables around there shops and simply fill them with money. the tables could then be set to limit the payout to the amount availblle. this would give architects something else to craft and players another way to spend the easily earned credits. depending on how high your merchant skills are you would be given access to different, additional tables.
you could even go a step further and have architects create hotel like structures that maybe take up ten lots. these structures would have multiple rooms that you could rent out to patrons or comp to the high rollers. plus maybe a special area for a bar and resterant as well as multiple gaming rooms.
i think this would make the merchant class so much more desirable and would help out the ecomonmy in so many ways.
bonus we can employ dancers and chefs for the bars. and if some is caught cheating we can employ a Bounty Hunter to deal out justice vegas style![]()
Ooh. I love this. Done right, you might have never ending money machine ![]()
Even better if you needed certifications to use various tables...tacking more usefulness onto our somewhat empty skillboxes.
I would run an underground secret elite casino in the basement of my shop <Rubs hands together>
simple money sink...
We do an 80/20 split
SOE gets 80
Merchants get 20
(Note 80 percent goes poof..ie its a money sink)
The games payout is around 98 percent...so if you play 100 credits you lose 2 credits.
(Note you may lose 100 cr and the next guy wins you credits)
But the...
You win 3 credits
Rolling
Rolling
That has to go...dont the sell a slot machine game at best by with better grapics>?
A few issue would have to be resolved before this would ever fly.
- Who is backing the thing. If some one comes in and drops 20k on 11, and it is hits, 640k is the payout. Who pays that, is there a table limit? What if I do not have it?
- Who gets the intake?
- Who can use them? Only merchants, anyone?
I would place one in my house even if I got nothing at all, just for the fun. These issues would need to be addressed, and given the amount of "Current" issues, I am hate to say this may be a long time coming.
That being said, I am willing to bring it up, and see what happens.

You could almost create an new profession for the casino owner. Have some other games like 3 sabacc montey and such. Would require a bit of development. My though is that for backing is that you have a bank for the casino. You can limit the bet based upon the amount that resides in the bank. For instance, someone can drop 20K on 11 if and only if there is 640K in the bank.
Here are some other issues to think about as well.
1. Who controls the payout %? I'd like to see the casino owner do it. Then they can advertise loose slots!
2. Would the casino pay maintenance on the machines?
3. Would SWG then require a new profession for Gamblers Anonymous? Maybe just some forum space ![]()
you have to play the roulette(sp?) table i put tend grand on low and bam i make ten grand throw ten grand on even and agian i win ten grand through 20 grand on 00 and there goes 20 grand![]()
really though maintance could be pro rated by how often tables are played. or even set a standard tax on the casino take, i wouldn't mind throwing 15-20% to SOE. certs would be a great idea, given more benifit to going up the merchants tree. those certs could be expanded to give merchants special acces to shop like structures and hotelsas well as variations on prizes say instead of credits a creature mount or speedercould be a prize ( when they are in the game of course)and with player cities maybe you can set 10% to SOE 5% to the city or somthing along those lines. that could help pay for police, med centersnew schools ect ect ect.
we would need more than just the two currently availible tables( at least i have only seen two some one correct me if i am wrong) maybe some sort of card table and game involving dice. and yes the slots need a better UI somthing with spinning imperial symbles and maybe underground ones with reble symbles as the big pay out line. maybe those types could even be faction perks? none the less most if not all these items should be craftable by architects. droid engineers could make new droids that are attached to houses in such away that they rove the casino floor acting as a credits for chips dispencer or somthing along those lines.
so who is our corispondent, some one get them to forward this idea to the devs![]()
well as far as the payout for the various tables it would simply be limted to the amount of money each table had in it. so lets say you place a table and put 250k in it well then the odds of winning and the payout would simply scale to that existing amount.
of course who ever starts a casino would have to have a considerable bank role to back this but you could go in with partners. im sure there are weapon and armor smiths out there with a few million to spare![]()
only merchants would be able to place them as this would be part of the merchant profesion. starting a new profesion for this may sound good originally but really there are not that many new skills to warrant the creation of another profesion. contolling the payout is a hard one, if we leave up to SOE you have no control of how much money you are giving out. it you put it all on the player then there is no control over players making machines with no payout. obviously that would only work for awhile but still it would not be right. i think a scale that is implemented by SOE allowing you to contol how offten the machine pays out without making so rare that it is virtualy non-existent would work best.
as for maintance that could go hand in hand with paying a percentage of the profits to the game. or you could simply make a seperate maintance scale based on how offten a machine is played either way SWG keeps its money sink and merchants gain a new way to make there proffesion more desirable other than people simply taking novice merchant for the vendors.
obvioulsy the intake of money is put into the merchants bank account or split among the partners that created the casino in the first place. maybe some sort of pa style group could be created where you have so many players join it and a casino bank account that holds the casino funds. you could only use these funds with a majority vote from your partners.
i think the key to this even being considered as an addition to the game is to base it around existing code so that there is very little work involed in creating it. we have seen hotels in cities so re-coding this to be player created should not be dificult we already have a few machines in existence and the code for the PA could be reworked for the partnership idea. as for the other stuff it seems relativly simple but then again im not a programer.
