I read through the Merchant FAQ thread before posting (thanks to the author, very good info!) and I have a question about Signs that wasn't mentioned. In order to conserve lots, I placed a vendor inside a house owned by a friend. Is it possible for me, as a house administrator and the one with the Merchant skills, to add a Sign to his house?

Yes, you can change the sign on any house you have admin rights to, you just can't change what the sign says without actually owning the house.
