To add a bit to the original question: Suppose I were to go up the hiring tree, place the nice slim vendors (my personal favorites) surrender the hiring skills in favor of management (while never exceeding my vendor or item limit) would my chosen vendor style be affected?

The only rule I have "violated" is having vendors of a style I can "no longer" place.

Any thoughts?

climbing one tree for placement of one vendor type

then another for dressing

and dropping them to climb a different one is actually common practice for dabblers.

just keep item/vendor count in check while doing so and you should be fine

Most commonly people climb for NPCs, place em, drop the line and climb for uniforms, dress em, drop the line and climb for item count

Thanks for the replies. I know its kinda cheesy and underhanded. I just wish there were better looking vendors at the bottom rung. But being a Master Chef/BE doesn't leave a lot of skillpoints for "frills" and such. Guess I'll just try and make really good product for a good price. Thats what sells anyway, content, not the package.
