Thread: New problem with backpacks, offers and inventory limits

I /bugged this today but since I didn't see anything in the first couple pages of the Merchant forum I wondered if anyone else is seeing this behavior. This is the scenario:

A player offers me a backpack with 30 items in it.
I have 20 items in my inventory so when I buy it it goes to my inventory.
I now have 51/60 items in my inventory.
I sell those 30 items on my vendor then delete the bag.
I now have 20/60 items in my inventory just as before.
Now when I go hunting my inventory is capped at 30/60 and I get the "unable to loot i item messages" eventhough I have 30 spots left.
I can delete 1 item and loot another item but I'm still "soft capped" to 30.

Its as if those 30 items I listed on my vendor are still in my inventory. The only workaround I found is to logout for about 30 minutes. This has happened to me numberous times since Pub 10 and probably every time I stock items I purchased from a bag.

Oddly enough this happens when someone transfers a bag to me with items in it as well.

Something similar happened to me the other night.

I spent a few hours revamping my shop. Adding new vendors - moving stock around from an old vendor, storing it in backpacks on a temporary vendor, removing the old vendor, and then getting the backpack from the temp and restocking on the new one.

I had one backpack left with 18 items in it and my inventory was still less than 30.

I leave my shop, hop on bike and as I go over the water, I get a message that says "You can't move because you're overloaded" (or something like that). I was stuck and had to send ina ticket to get un-stuck. No matter what I did, I couldn't move. I even started deleting a few stuff that I could easily replace - and nothing. 45 minutes later, CSR comes in and removed the 3 backpacks I had and I could move again (the other 2 were empty).

Turns out, my backpacks were bugged and the system still thought it was full of the products I restocked my vendors with.

Send in a ticket and have them un-bug your backpack.

Is that a new error message? I have never seen a "You're overloaded" message like that. Maybe its a precursor to the Armor-makes-you-slower thing in the Combat Revamp.

Pretty sure the message is new - but the bug is VERY old. If memory serves - around Pub 6 backpacks started being very problematic again. That was about the time that I couldn't remove something from a pack in one storage house - put it in my backpack, and have it stick around visible if I left the house.

This caused all kinds of havoc with 'counts' in a backpack as well as being VERY irritated if you tried to pull from storage to stock a vendor.

I'd be very surprised if these two issues weren't connected somehow.

I don't know if it's new or not, it's the first time I've experienced it in this game. I may have the wording wrong (can't remember now) but in effect, it was telling me I can't move because I was carrying too much or over the limit of my personal inventory.

I'll try flying around some before selling. That might help.

Thanks for the feedback.

Just 3 days ago...I got the "you cannot move because your inventory is overloaded" message while on a mount. I got off the mount, and was unable to move. I had 2 items in my inventory and wasn't even wearing a backpack. I was stuck at that spot because I could run 2m then get warped back and spun in circles. I sent a stuck appeal to the CSR, he came 20 minutes later, took over 30 more minutes for him to understand what was happening to me, he actually had to come into the game so he could see me get warped back and spun in circles, while the error message kept frantically going off. (He had been telling me to go to a starport and port and I kept trying to explain I couldn't). He then he ported me to Naboo (from Tatooine) and it FIXED it. He ported me back to my house on Tatooine. That day...I had moved alot of backpacks full of stuff back and forth, and porting. (Was moving my vendors from one player city offworld to another.) So if this happens to you, get the CSR to port you offworld. Yes it must be related to the new encumbrance "feature". Yuck.

This is scary. I'm about to make a massive move to another planet, and I'm moving my resource biz too...that plus my personal stock of components and tools, and keepsakes etc will be well over 2k items. Hope I dont get hit with it.

The overloaded message is new. It was added so that you wouldn't fail to get quest loot and ruin a quest. This way you get the loot but you are rooted until you deal with the overload. Its better than losing the needed loot item due to being over your inventory cap.

The problem with items on your vendor still being ghosted in your inventory is an old one. This seems to happen to me only in certain places. It feels like a server boundry issue.

Its pretty sure a server boundary issue. On one server your inventory is empty but didn't get properly updated to the database yet, you cross a boundary, the server their loads your data but gets incorrect inventory infos and assumes your inventory is still full.

One way to prevent is relog after transfering a lot of items. Just Shift-Esc/Disconnect and log back in.

Should be done in 20 seconds and the server saves your inventory properly.

Once you cross a server boundary and the bug hits you, I think its too late for that and you have to log out for the next 30 mins till your toon gets properly removed from the server.

So I usually relog once i pick up those 40 items, then relog after i droped them (before moving again). Since i do that, i didn't had a bugged inventory anymore.

Might be a pain sometimes but less pain then not being able to carry anything anymore.

The temporary soft cap on total inventory space is an ancient bug. It happened to me about a year ago the first time. It seems very rare and I have only run into it a few times ever. The "you are overloaded" is new and its when you exceed your inventory items capacity. Happens most often to us merchants or anyone moving inventory in bags around.

Its an ancient bug, but not that rare.

Log off/on never solved it for me. Only the server reboot.

If that happens in conjunction with "cannot move due to overloading" --- AARRGGHH. POssibly have to wait until server reboot to be able to move again - that stinks.

Have fun
