Not at all. As long as merchandise is in the vendor, you'll gain XP both on and offline.

I used to be a master merchant, and am picking it up again. Do you still get 100xp per vendor, per hour, like before? I just wanted to make sure, so I can guestimate how long it will take me to master again.

/bump for a good question.
Also, I had been getting pretty decent xp from my 4 active, stocked, often visited vendors (I'm currently 3-3-4-4 Merchant), but this seems to have really dropped off in the past couple of days, and I even added a new vendor recently for a total of 5. Anyone know if merchant xp rate has decreased, or is it my imagination or I'm bugged? I am getting xp, but seems like not as fast as I was.

You get the same amount you use to get 150 xp per hour per vendor.However it's faster now because you get more vendors.

As MasterMerchant you can get up to 1800 XP per hour. thats around 40k per day.
As 0404 Merchant you get 1500.
Your Merchant XP cap is 80k, so you'll have to go to the village every second day to trade it in.
