This is on the right track but it doesn't handle direct sales to one person by name and it doesn't allow me to set prices different for different guilds or factions. These are some of the things I would like to see in any solution like this.

All great ideas I think. But I am always thinking of ways to enhance the game with minimal effort first. So here is a little idea. How about making it possible to place vendors in non-public buildings? I know it will not solve everything. But it would at least enable us to makespecial sales to special people. And I think this would be very easy to implement.

Well, at least this is one optimised start. Actually I think of same things but person-by-person sales can just let DEVS tell to us "NO WAY!" because of high database usage. Not many merchants have time to do actually setting different prices for every single person by name. But yes..

For example, VIP vendors (lets say customer pick-up vendors might be used on custom orders)

I concur with Doc. I'd rather have a direct sale option for special orders before a VIP list. A VIP list would be cool though.

Introducing VIP List on Vendors

Many of us do actually discounts in-guild sales and for some of our loyal customers. What we currently use is tracking "Vendor Sale Complete" emails for our friends or guildmates and banktip back. Hence this is also making hard times for our friends for asking to us what we promised to them as in discounts as their pride. Many never makes us notice about their purchases not to be seen as shameless people.

How does VIP list work?

Simply as in Structure Entry/Hopper list. When a player initiates a vendor, a simple query on database is held if this person is in VIP list of the current vendor or not. Then items are listed on his/her screen with prices we already stated for VIP list.

When we sell an item from our vendors, we now see a text field where we can enter a price for our product. What may happen on VIP list is to have a second box option for a price entry same for all VIP list. Lets say we usually sell a product for 50K credits. If VIP field is left empty or zero (or NULL in db terms) then VIP Price is set for default price (50K in this example while product entry to database - not on listing to keep optimised db query) and say our in-guild price is 40K on this subject.

A Person who is in VIP list of vendor simply will follow these steps.

  • Initialise Vendor (where server will make control if this person is in VIP list or not)

  • If on VIP list he/she will see a listing with "only" VIP prices.

  • If VIP examines a product, he/she will see also actual price that is on sale while viewing items properties (eg. Naboo house : maintenance rate: surplus maintenance etc. screen)

  • He/she buys what they desire and go away happily thanking you special discount.

A Merchant screen on "For Sale" tab will include a coloumn for a VIP prices.

Technical (Developing Side)

I for sure know the load of that will make on database but which can be easily optimised. Currently a simple algoritm may be held like in house entry list on initialising vendors. There will be a simple coloumn added to items database and a VIP list option

Current System:

  • a User initialises vendor (check if vendor is valid or not)

  • Lists items on default price

New System:

  • a User intialises vendor (check if vendor is valid & if person in VIP list)

  • If in list, List items on VIP price; if not List items with default price.

Another database query is made on "Details" of items so I personally think there is no need for people in VIP list to see default prices on first listing, so just an additional Query on database where IF.. THEN.. ELSE statement held.

As Final note...

This may come confusing for many of people. But I do not personally think it is a very big problem for coders of database (ofcourse those who knows of those better than me) to understand this statements.

VIP list can be made for once per person for all vendors of merchant and simply will offer our customers more customised, more friendly sales and will make both sides happier.

Thanks for reading this long post and waiting for your opinions on this matter.

Direct Sales

>When we set price have a blank field where a name would go, then have the item only show to that player, so it stays invisble to everyone else.

Setting price with no name means everyone can see and therefor buy it

Discount

>Have a merchant's friend listing.

Create a window similer to a freinds list, where we can add/removenames and or guilds (and eventually faction) for a discount or price increase.

Let these be factored in when the names on list access vendor as a city tax is factored, off the price we set for normal sells.

So they see the price change whether more or less then normal set price.

and sure they can buy discount for friends or have others buy if it is at increased price, but thats always happened.
