Thread: Question about Vendors. Will one disappear if I untrain Hiring and train Management

I am a Master Artisan, Master Architect, Master WS, and novice Merchant. I have very few skill points left, and after training Hiring and placing a new vendor, I've decided that I want Management instead (rather than placing different kinds of vendors, I just want more of them). Right now, I'm a 0-0-1-0 Merchant. And, I want to end up as a 0-0-0-3 merchant. So, if I was to train Management tonight, then untrain Hiring, would either of my two vendors disappear?? Or would both still be fine since I still have the ability to have two vendors.

Thanks

Anian

We need to create a FAQ or something, cause I swear this question gets asked on a daily basis, several times a day.

Simple Answer: The vendor will stay

Non-Simple Answer: Some deem it as an exploit, kinda like being able to make wookie clothing without having the neccesary skills in domestic arts or novice tailor. This "feature" of being able to keep the vendor after dropping merchant or business could be fixed at any time, so do it at your own risk.

The difference between those people and myself is that I don't plan on dropping Merchant. I just wanna train a different ladder. Rather than training up the Hiring Ladder, I wanna train up the Management Ladder. So, I'm not planning on ever dropping my merchant skills completely. I just plan on dropping one ladder and going up the other. I don't think I'm in any danger, but I just wanted to verify.

Thanks

Well but under this scenario lets say I wanted the custom races of Hiring II or III so I train up to them get myBlith vendor, then surrender the skills and I still have the Blith. Is this fair to the peple keeping Hiring II or III? I don't think it is. The point of having skill points is to make people make choices of what they want to do in the game. If you don't want hiring fine, but using the perks of hiring without having the skills isn't fair for those keeping the skills. They are no longer distinctive for having kept the skills.

If a Master Weaponsmith is the only one who can create a T21 rifle would it be fair to let someone get to master and then surrender the skill but keep the schematic? No it wouldn't I just want everyone to consider this when they think about this topic.

I think this whole concept needs to be addressed by the devs and you shouldn't be allowed to give up merchant skills for which you have a vendor which is dependant on that skill. I think you should get a warning that you can't un train that skill while you have Vendor "Such and Such". The same should be true of Signs and other benefits of being a merchant. Anything short of that is unfair to the people who have those skills.

I have, check for Draznar's Mini Guide. I update it frequently.

I do not think the dropping hiring should make you lose ones you have created, though I do believe that people should lose them as they drop management, or better yet yu can not drop management till you remove a vendor.

Actually, my apologies, I assumed this was another "dropping management" posts, and didn't read it entirely since I was in a hurry. As for dropping hiring, which this is actually about, you wouldn't lose your vendors, however, like somebody said above you should. If you get to a point in hiring to be able to get the customized vendors like the ithorian, and you drop the skill required to create another one, that vendor should revert to a human or something.

I think that they need to add more into the hiring line. This line only helps you out when you create the vendor, there is no real ongoing benefit. I think this line should be merged with the Advertising line and we should get a new branch.

See, here's the deal. I actually trained the wrong merchant skill by mistake. I always meant to train management. So, that's what I'd rather have anyway.

So what vendor do you have that you got when you got Hiring I that you wouldn't have gotten if you hadn't trained it?

Just to be safe, I pulled the vendor I made with Hiring, trained Management, untrained Hiring, and then placed a random NPC vendor.

I should be fine now.

Yes. That is the best way to do it. You are now assured that you don't have a vendor that could be in jeopardy if they make changes to the way skill surrendering affects vendors for the merchant profession.
