Hullo all,

I have an extra alt I dont know what to make. Im looking to make him a big money maker. He is on a small sever called Shadowfire so any thing will due. Before I had him asbefore the CUMaster Chef but didnt get really enough into it to sell good enough, all I would sell to is my guild. I have heard that Rescourse Sellers make lots of money. What about smugglers and selling fp and since slicing is the new thing for smugglers. I would be willing to do crafting and harvesting but I dont have much to start me off with.

Well thanks for the advice and comments

Shadowfire? They still keep that server running?

Short answer: do what you enjoy. If you don't enjoy the crafting profession you choose (there are several that I would not enjoy), then move on to something else. This is a game after all, and is supposed to be fun.

I do find that resource people can make a lot of money if they put a little effort into it. The easiest way to do resources is to do a lot trade, put some harvesters someplace, never move them, and just mine whatever spawns under them. This is easy, but really not incredibly profitable any more. You have to count on people needing grinding resources, and buying from you. There are plenty of people with this type of business, so competition can be tough. You may end up with a lot of resources that nobody wants.

A better way is to survey for specific resources, then mine all that you can. Only go for high quality resources that you know people will be interested in. This takes a bit more work, as you actually have to survey. And the best resource people will learn a little about the crafting professions and what they need, so that they can spot a great resource when it spawns. OQ isn't always the only stat that matters. Mine good resources and you can sell for 5 cpu or more on everything you harvest. Considering that it costs less than 1 cpu to run your harvesters, 5 cpu is a pretty good profit.

As for other professions, I'm not sure. I haven't been a successful smuggler or major crafter, so I don't think I can really comment on those. Whether you're a crafter or resource merchant, you need to know the best resources when you see them though...

I for one have done a lot trade with a person who did come and take the harvesters. But of course they waited until they were all almost full of some good resources. I had done 20 lots with this person. They decided to move to Shadowfire and used the sale of the resources and harvesters as a way to start their new life here. They actually had the nerve to contact me and my hubby to make them some items. LOL

Who were they? I make a habit of banning anyone I don't like.

Oh geez, you would ask that, it was over a year ago. All I can remember is his name started with a c. I know, that really helps. I dont even know if he (well, male char, though to be fair, it couldve been a womanbehind the screen) is still playing.

For a lot trade, someone from another server creates a character on your server. That new character has 10 lots that they can use. You give that person 10 harvesters (or houses, or whatever you want to use on their lots). They set up the harvesters where you want them to, name them what you want them named, and they make you admin on them. You're responsible to add power, maintenance, and to run them. The other person then logs off and never returns to your server. The harvesters don't move, so make sure you have them placed somewhere convenient. Then you create a character on their server and do the same for them. Just make sure to trade with someone on a server that you never actually want to play on. Someplace utterly unimportant like Gorath or Scylla.

I think the original goal of lot trades was to create a path of harvesters non-stop from Bestine to Jabba's palace so that people wouldn't have to touch the hot sand when traveling to Wayfar or Jabba's. Now that harvesters don't poof when they run out of maintenance, we're well on the way to covering every inch of every planet with harvesters...

Keep in mind, however, that the developers do not like lot trades and as soon as they can figure out a way to put a stop to the practice without interfering with normal play, I'd imagine that they will do it.

Personally, I've been working on an idea about this and I think I've come up with a pretty good one.

Ya - there are a couple of risks with lot trades:

1) The person who set up harvesters for you can always come back and steal them. This doesn't usually happen, but it can.

2) SOE can remove the ability to lot trade, but they'd probably get it wrong the first few times. They'd probably set it up so that credits from the sale of items on a merchant's vendor would go to the person who owned the harvesters used to mine the resources needed to make the item. They have to get clever now to find new ways to nerf merchants. They've already done all the obvious ones...
