Thread: New idea to give master merchant more of an appeal
This isnt an issue, so much as maybe a suggestion to the devs. Alot of merchants dont want combat going on in their shops. They dont want valued customers being attacked, because when this happens, it takes away from the bottom line for said merchants. So on to my proposal.
How hard would it be for the devs to create a new vendor ability to prevent combat from happening within their store? This would give purpose to having master merchant again, or hiring 4. This would allow for a toggle on the owners store that would prevent combat from occuring in the structure. To offset this ability, it could also allow for an increased maintenance cost to the store. IE to resemble hiring guards or a protection organization.
Prior to this last patch, it wasnt much of an issue. Most of the gcw takes place in bases or large cities. However, with this patch you now have the new jedi/bh tef. Last night alone, I had 2 of my jedi customers attacked within minutes of entering the store. I dont want my store as a combat zone. I pride myself on trying to keep a neutral store, and if we could get something like what im suggesting instituted, would fix this issue.
To keep this from being a griefing for the bh, there would have to be checks and balances. IE, allow this only at master merchant. Thus, if someone gets to master merchant, enters this and then drops master merchant, then this ability would be lost immediately. I know that this probably would mean alot of coding, but its just an idea.

This is a good idea, but there would need to be some control for preventing Jedi from using their second account to place a shop then use this ability. Technically, they could just always hunt around their shop and run in when they see a bounty hunter. I know it sounds silly, but sometime people do silly things.
This could also be abused by a BH loosing a fight or rebel/imp overts.
Also, if a Jedi wants to shop in peace they can use their alt to buy what they need, then drop the stuff in their house to later pickup with their Jedi.
Allthough you are correct, it should also be allowed for the merchants to decide what goes on in their stores. I mean, if you were acting unrulely in walmart or kmart, you would have some nice guys in blue uniforms to talk too. Same principle. And by allowing this at master merchant, it does give some control. In addition, a jedi cant abuse this because right now he can be safe in a private home by sitting on the second floor or basement where he cant be targeted. So I think the abuses would be minimal.

You would offer to allow them to re-enter if they will abide by the rules. You would also, before putting this into effect, need to add a disclaimer to your shop sign stating "No fighting inside offenders will bebanned" or something to that effect.
Just a thought more then anything and no need to recode. The ability is already in game you just have to be creative to implement it for yourself.

Not to sound like Captain Obvious but click on the structure control and add the names of the offenders to the Ban list. Then send them a polite email and tell them they have been banned from your shop due to the no fighting policy in effect.

The problem with this is 2 fold. First is no one reads house signs anymore. Who needs too? Second, most have a filter set up to not see the barker vendors so that kills that way of doing this. So allthough I do agree, there are mechanics in place to somewhat get around the combat issue, its not full proof by any means. Its like putting a band aide on a gaping wound.
really? how so? I always thought Barker droids and NPC vendor bark cannot be filtered out....
