If any of you have read Timothy Zahn's Heir to the Empire trilogy (and if you haven't you should) you will know of the Hive virus that afflicted the crews of the Katana fleet. Basically this was a virus that infected the entire crew while in its dormant state. When it flared up it drove its victims insane shortly before killing them, the insanity causing them to slave their ships together and make a blind jump into hyperspace.

I can only assume that this nasty virus has unfortunately afflicted the DEVs. I can see no other rational explanation for them to have pushed such a controversial change to Test Center late on a Friday and then fail to make any further comment. I fear the DEVs must have implemented this change as the insanity gripped them, pushing it to Test Center and then tying their cars together with rope and driving off into the night, never to be seen again.
