Sell stuff with them. Thats what they are for. While I understand the appeal of using them as npc's and decorations it really doesn't do anything to further the merchant profession.

That would be a good thing to add to Architects or DE's... The ability to build and sell a greeter droid/terminal for us merchants. That way a Shop could have a droid that welcoms clients, instead of using the lifeless chassies that are used now.
Or Give that skill to merchants, Give us the ability to Hire a greeter. (I want an old guy in a Blue smock in my mall! hehehe) This would basically be a Vendor Shell that only has the ability to Bark not sell anything.

But as soon as you put that CDEF pistol on there for 10k, somebody will come along and buy it just because they think they're clever.
That's why I always keep a good supply of CDEF pistols on hand. At 10k a pop, I make a huge profit off the 'clever' people!

Just put junk up for sale nobody wants to buy. Then it'll be safe to use vendors that way.

It's even better if whatever you put on it has a name that looks like it's something you want people to look at.
It should be something like "welcome. read for store info" and then in the description you write this elaborate bit about your store (truth or fiction).
All the little kiddies will giggle with glee when they "grief you" and buy your welcome message off your decorative vendor.
Just be sure to save that message somewhere that you can copy/paste it again. You'll need it.
Another favorite tactic of mine is to load such vendors with bogus "custom order" packs.
Name several packs "Bob's order" "Sue's order" "Kowabacca's order"
Just be sure that they either aren't actual players, or they're your friends who know that it's filled with bogus stuff.
Then I put 1-5 chance cubes named "sorry no refunds" in each pack so they don't appear as empty packs.
Now give them random prices in the neighborhood of 10k.
You'll either make a huge profit or your vendor will never be empty.
Either way, you're good.

Brilliant!
You're marvelously evil. I approve.

That is sooooo evil...
I'm a Smuggler along with being a Merchant, so I might even consider calling them custom slicing orders...
Then just fill them with old unlocked containers...
I wonder how many people will think they are slick and try to buy up other "player's" orders.

As long as you add an item for sale now and then, the vendor will stay as long as you want it to. I don't know if relisting an item restarts the timer, but you can always drop in items you want stored for say, 99 million credits or something. You don't need to actually make sales to keep it alive, just so long as it's being "used."
