I'm not a pure merchant, I just like helping out newbs, guildies, citizens with lower prices.. but I don't want to compete with other merchants.
The concept has been around I see, but doing a search, I didn't find many mentions of it, maybe it's not a good idea.. but..
I recently had my vendor cleaned out of furniture, and though I understand it's a risk, I'd just as soon not simply raise my prices or have to do massive griding just to restock. I want to help out people (I sell things for around 3cpu, not in it for the money).
I thought it might be a good idea to make cheap items (say, bone armor segments), and sell those in my vendor. I could name it, for example, "Redeemable for Small Generic House (city residents only)". I could limit my market to residents, guildies, whoever, and not be cleared out by a reseller, and still give a break to whoever I wanted.
Pros-
-discourages resellers
-no need to store/markdown overstock, just destroy the segments since..
-inventory is flexible
-guaranteed price/product for customer
-not too time-consuming to craft simple items, smaller purchases
-one voucher can represent say a whole living room set, lighting set, etc.

Cons-
-inconvenient to customer
-inventory (outside of stockroom) limited to structure item limit
-very time-consuming for complex items or large purchases
-need physical stockroom since vendor stockroom isn't meant for storage

Another idea I had was no vendor at all, just a big showroom with pricetags (just furniture and housing). Although that would make it not related at all to the merchant profession, it is still related to business, so I thought I'd throw it out here.
Any thoughts are greatly appreciated..

charge a 50k access fee and put the town citizens/friends on the admit list so they don't have to pay it. deters lookie-loos and essentially gives you a private vendor.
