Thread: Vendors and the Bazaar

I write this from a buyer perceptive not a seller. At this time it is very hard to find what you are looking to buy with all the empty vendors or people changing 3 or 4X the price it should go for. Here are a few things I would like to see added. If it has come up before just count this as one more vote.

Novice Merchant – Vendor is listed on a tab on the bazaar along with “Vendor Type, Planet, Player city (If one) or Nearest Main City, and Number of Items”

Advertising 1 – New Vendor Info “Waypoint, Last Stock Date”

Advertising 2 - New Vendor Info “All Items on ONE vendor will display Info and cost, Just like you are looking at the vendor”. You just can not buy. Sort of like a Sells Ad.

Advertising 3 – New Vendor Info “All Items on all vendors display Info and cost, Just like you are looking at the vendor/s”. You just can not buy.

Advertising 4 – You can now buy off the vendor, but you will have to go to the vendor for pick-up. You have 7 days to pick-up item or it can be put back up for resell by vendor owner.

Master Merchant – Items you buy off the vendor can now be delivered to you by the bazaar terminal. This would be at a cost to the buyer. The cost would also be a money sink.

Notes: On pick-up items if the vendor gets delete, house delete, or house condemned pick-up items would be moved to the nearest bazaar terminal for pick-up. Buyer would get an e-mail with waypoint.

Of course this is just an outline and the levels could be moveed up or down as the game see fit. If there is a topic on this already point the way.

If you flame please call a Doc to put me out.

I personally don't agree with this. Have you ever try buying something of the bazaar and have to go through 15 pages of junk that is poorly described? You are welcome to go through hundreds of pages of junk if that's what you want.

There are a few shops I regularly go to now because they usually have what I want at a resonable price. I rather do business at these places rather than spend hours looking for things. Time is money, and I can be making money instead of thumbing through pages.

As for the price of things, there are a LOT of things on the Bazaar that is underpriced. As an crafter, I have found things that are cheaper than what I can possibly make them for. It's buyer beware... if you don't like the price, don't buy it.

Now, if SOE made operating the vendors a little friendlier to the merchant's, that would really help out with the empty vendors. But there's another thread about that problem already.

I personally really like the idea. The main reason I don't sell as much as I could is because people don't know about my shop. My prices (for resources) are usually better than the bazaar. Currently the main way to get people into your shop is to spam in starports - this would help reduce that. If people could see my resources for sale straight from the bazaar, I'd be set.

This would also give me (as a master merchant) a strong advantage over other sellers. I really don't see the downside. If you have some specific shops you like, you're not likely to be looking through the bazaar anyway. This would help you when you need something, but don't know where to find it. I personally hate checking 87 vendors on 5 planets before I find what I'm looking for. This way, those merchants who have product for sale would be more likely to sell it. Those non-merchants who sell would have to advertise using more traditional (annoying) methods. And those people who do list items on the bazaar itself would be limited to the 6000 credit cap. Those buyers who wanted to buy items from local merchants could click on the regional search instead of that city only. And maybe items that couldn't be picked up right there at the bazaar could be a slightly different color or something. I really don't see how this hurts the merchant profession in any way though - it would actually help those people with merchant skills quite a bit. And it would streamline the buying process. Sounds great to me...

Without a better search tool, putting vendors on the bazaar would be a nightmare. In any event wanting people to never visit your location is short sighted. People who come to your place develop a relationship with your business and they come back to you even when they have to travel to do it. If they never come to your location you get their business once and maybe never again. I would like to see a vendor searching system in the game but I don't want anything that would encourage my customers to avoid my shops.

i like the idea of the vendors being listed on a separage page in a bazaar, maybe add different advertising capabilities as you gain skill, but i donot agree that vendors should ever have the ability to buy/retrieve items from the bazaar or list items (this would require way too much data).

The idea of this is to get the vendor listed on the Bazaar, not mix all the items in with the Bazaar. Therewould be a TAB called "Vendors". Under this TAB is a list of the Vendors and the info you get from your skill boxes. When you make Ad. 2 then people canclick onyour vendor and see the items and cost.

If buying off the Term is a show stopper then drop the stuff in the last two boxs that I put. Just have the stuff listed so people can find it with ease. This would get more people outto your player town (if in one) and more poeple in you vendor tent.

I think having this on the bazaar is a bad idea purely due to the fact that the bazaar is quite poorly implemented.

Two better suggestions would probably be:

1) Improve the listings of vendors on the global map. Allow someone to right-click a vendor to see total number of items on vendor and listings of each unique item sold (eg, brandy, canape, vercupti - keeping it high level)

or

2) Create a separate Vendor Terminal that provides a powerful interface for buyers to search vendors, allowing such categories as last stocked date, minimum items in stock, item type etc.

Master Merchant Vendor Terminal

Set them up next to the bazaar terminals. Allow a master merchant to put up items for sale on their vendors (in various locations) for a fee (say 1% of the sales price, minimum 25 credits). If they do this their sale will show up on the Vendor Terminal. A person can browse and find the item they want at the price they want then download a waypoint to the shop. Make them go there to get the item and buy it. When it is purchased from the shop the waypoint of anyone that is heading for the shop is updated (boink! sale has expired) and the sale is no longer advertised on the vendor terminal.

To prevent or mitigate arbitrary (bait and switch,et cetera) revocation of sales make the 1% fee due whether or not the item sells.

Could also be a separate tab in the normal vendor terminal found in every city.

Takers?
