Thread: Merchant XP from Vendors

Ok, so it's well known that you get 150xp per hour from every vendor you have active in the world thanks to Doc's excellent guide that's stickied here.

While doing some research for something else a couple of weeks ago I ran across something in the in-game knowledge base (article #7757) that says:

Merchant experience is gained through use of merchant abilities. Merchant experience is awarded for each of the following:

- When someone pays to enter a structure with an access fee.

- When someone checks your vendor, but only once every 10 minutes.

- Every time maintenance is deducted from a vendor. This amount is doubled if your vendor's maintenance is fully paid.

The exact amount of experience granted is based on a couple specifics that should be discovered through general game play.

The awarding of merchant experience is currently working as designed.

Now seeing as how I'm doing the long, slow trek up the FS Senses tree with Merchant XP (and that horrid 80k xp cap)I did all sorts of calculations based on how fast I should be getting XP from 12 vendors.

Then I ran across this article and it looked like maybe I should be getting 300xp instead of 150, but my rate of XP gain did not support thisalthough I couldn't be sure because I have a high volume of sales and the numbers get skewed by customers clicking.

Now thanks to Doc, I was able to put up a single vendor on TC and see what happened in a controlled environment. Here's what I found:

Vendor with maintenance: 150xp per hour.

Vendor without maintenance: 50xp per hour.

So my questions are:

Is the knowledge base wrong about the double xp for paid vendors?

Is the game not properly awarding double xp?

Is it a combination of the two and the game is actually awarding triple xp for paid vendors?

Please post your observations on this phenomenon.

I came across this article a few weeks back and made a post here, but didn't get many responses. My vendors are always paid up with maintenance, so I can't give any feedback on unpaid vendors. I regularly cap merchant experience and trade it in for force sensitive senses experience. Most of the time I receive 150xp per vendor per hour, but occasionally I have received 300xp per vendor per hour. This always seems to occur from when I trade in at the village and reset to zero merchant xp until I cap again. Thus far I have not been able to discover any way to predict when I will get double xp or not.

How recent is that KB article Elyssa? I had a conversation bout this with some CS folks and I wonder if this was clarified after that. This actually explains some issues we have seen. I think its poorly worded at best and we shoud push them to add the actual numbers in. There is no variable about how much it pays.

I copied and pasted that from the in-game holocron last night.
