I just hit Master Artisan and I am thinking of training in Novice Merchant. How do you acquire the initial 5k Merchant XP to train in Novice Merchant? I see no items that I can craft/use - nor any applicable skills. Any information is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance...

That's a good question. When I got to the top of the business tree, I already had the required merchant XP so I can't really say how I got it. If I were to guess, I'd say you get merch XP from selling items you've crafted through the bazaar and direct trading. That's just a guess though.

You get Merchant XP from having a vendor in your house.

Any idea on the rate, I've just got novice merchant and I seem to get 150 an hour. My friend had buisness 3 in the artisan tree and was only getting 50xp an hour. Is it based on the hiring skill as I have +30 and my friend has +10 and we both only have 1 vendor each. Would like to know as I've nealy got 10k xp and the hiring first level boxes gives +20 hiring, therefore might be a good choice for faster xp gain.

If you get more xp for a higher hiring skill that would be an aweful big incentive to put train the hiring line. I'm not sure how true that is though. However to answer the initial question you get merchant xp from vendors, I've heard you also get it from putting an access fee on your house, though I personally have never tried this method as I feel I'd lose customers if I did and my business isn't popular enough to get away with it.

We have two computers, with two accounts - so I've been able to test this...

You get merchant xp when someone browses your vendor - 50pts. I don't know if you get xp at any other time. When I added a second vendor, my xp went up faster, as most people will browse both vendors when they visit. It also accrues offline, so you don't have to be on to get the points when someone browses your wares.

My merchant xp is going up fairly rapidly with little effort.

You seem to get XP on a regular basis. If items sell you get more XP but you always get some base amount of XP.

You also get Merchant XP by selling on the Bazar. I had 5000 Merchant XP before I even placed my first Vendor by selling items on the bazar.

If that is so, then its a change.I was selling stuff through the bazaar in the first week and had accumulated no merchant xp for it. After that I had placed a vendor and had no real way to tell if it changed. I have been getting more, but I presumed that was because I dropped another vendor.

This change would be verygood for mebecauseI do all my sales through the bazaar currently. I am not an uber-crafter.. so I cant afford maintenance on stocked vendors at this time. I pretty much just sell resources.. and the market for that is healthy but there is only so much "product" I can generate in a day. I am seeing about 20k a day in sales, probably 12-15k after expenses. Certainly vendor costs would cut into that signficantly.

Ok, this is wild speculation on my part, I added money to maintain my wind harvester and BING, it said I had enough experience to learn Novice Merchant. Could they be related of was it just co-incidental that it binged at that moment? I'll test and see if it makes a difference on my next round of harvester maintenance.

if you getting merchant xp though the bazaar I want to know how all my sales are though the bazaar and I have 0 merchant xp

Merchant exp comes in pulses every 15 minutes or half hour or hour or something, so it was probably a coincidence.

Sometimes you get told you binged after the next action after actually binging, especially for merchant exp since you can bing offline.
