Thread: We need to be able to have other places to put vendors.

Right now there is NO reason to be able to hire more than one vendor. We can't place them in the wilds. We can't place them in structures owned by other people. We can't place them in special "Merchant Only" structures, because these structures don't exist, and we can't place our merchants in town.

I was thinking about this issue last night as I was toying around with the vendor in my newly opened Cantina. Is there any reason for having any more than 1 vendor in a shop? For convenience purposes, you could probably name one Weapons and another Armor. However, this is an artificial determination as the vendor is capable of selling a product line as broad as the bazaar. One vendor is capable of staffing an entirestore.

It seems to me that the "Master" Merchant would then be focused opening new stores on different planets. The main constraint here being lots and vendors.

Merchants actually play a very vital role in the player-economy as they are the opportunists that balance supply and demand across the galaxy. A crafter-merchant may own one shop on their home planet. However, so many lots are tied up in extractors, factories, etc. that their "supply" of goods is focused on their home planet. The straight Master Merchant has no such limitations. They can open up stores on every major planet (constrained by # of lots and vendors) and negotiate with suppliers (the ones that are always screaming about an over-supply) to provide them with merchandise. For many of the things made, you could probably negotiate a price with the non-master crafter that is a little higherthanthe value of the 5% experience bonus they receive for "practicing". Something is better than nothing. Thus, your cost of goods sold would be extremely low which helps absorb the time and travel costs required to manage multiple store across multiple planets.

I see a lot of opportunity for Merchants with a lot of personality, energy, and organizational skills. You don't need other places to place vendors... you just need to plan out your store expansions wisely and keep in mind the constraints placed on the Merchant profession.

Just a thought I had.
