I'm sure this is an issue that has a lot of traffic, but I've never heard the reasoning why all player buildings must be outside of an invisible "no-build" zone. I fully understand not being able to place new buildings in city limits, but what about providing empty buildings that could be rented at a premium? It would help to take up some of those buildings that cannot be entered that seem to be everywhere.

Maybe that's something they plan on adding later. Who knows?

Holo idly thought about doing this in Beta3, but that was when the Bazaar was costing 500 to list. I think they just abandoned it--I suspect the town art resources and other coding resources are highly restricted. Just look at how the NPC dialogue and movement tends to "run down" almost every day very quickly, with town NPCS usually ending up facing a wall. I think they're trying very hard to optimize towns due to concentrations of players.

I think because the plan was that PC cities would become the focal points of the different worlds instead of NPC cities.

Think Khuldan has it about right, lag is bad enough in cities as it is without people having real shops there. HoweverI bet at some point in the cities at the very least they will add the ablity to rent those little merchant stands in the streets. But probably not until they get the servers stable and the lag down. And it might not even happen till after player cities (as a contrary likely to make NPC cities more focalized, after in the Star Wars Bestine, Mos Eisly and Mos Espa were supposed to be some of the main cities on Tatooine, not L33t D3wD v3lLe)
