Yes you can, hiring is only used to create/dress the vendor, once the vendor is placed, you are still good to use

Along the same lines, does that mean I can dress up my vendors, then untrain the skill and they'll still function normally? Alternatively, can I have a master merchant come in to my house with admin rights, dress my vendors for me, and then revoke their admin?

At this time, nothing will happen to your vendors if you drop the skills.
That's not to say this will not change in the future, however.

Only you can dress your vendors. It is not possible to give anyone else "admin" to your vendors.

Considering the drastic skill points increases for almost every profession out there beyond crafters, I would hope that this doesn't change. It's hard enough to have skill points left for Merchant and still operate as a MBE, for example.

You can even master merchant, do everything you want ( put on planetary map build loads of vendors and stuff) then just dump it once oyu got everything you need.

I really think those people with signatures that look like part of the post are really annoying, thats why I made this one.
