Thread: Do Away with Vendors
There are a number of reasons why I don't like this idea. The first is this. When you come into my shop I have your undivided attention. You have only the vendors that I select for you to browse. You aren't looking at the wares of some competitor down the street, while you are there you are mine to make the sale or not. The bazaar is just too cluttered with junk.
if you want to make merchants more valible....you should have said "do away with venders at bis 3"
/flameshield on
The bazzar would not be cluttered with junk if you could charge more than 3k for items there might be something worth while on it.Second If your shop isn't on Cornet the Hub of the Galaxy your little shop is not gonna draw any customers to see your wares.Third players don't like spending ther time during play running back and forth from place to place trying to find what they want.fourth people would need A master merchant to place items for over 3 k on bazzar for them therfore giving you the oppurtunity to be a merchant by buying from them and turn a profit instead of listening to people hollar out side the starport causeing me more lag.you could put it on the bazzar for them.I hate running all the way out to someones house wasting my time to find that there vendor is blank. And as far as competition goes more the merrier maybe the merchants could actually work together than and control the market. And before you shoot this idea down look at all the oppurtunities it would open up for the class.Peopl would want to become a master merchant instead of just getting what they need from the class.

Seeing as the basis right now for merchant exp is vendors in existance/ people browsing vendors... and you get no exp from the bazaar... how would you suggest changing that system?
I like the current system. I can run my own little shop, it's what I always felt games lik EQ and DAoC lacked.
Yes I think the current system is great. We just need a few tweaks here and there. There is nothing fundimentally flawed with the merchant profession. There are some things that need to be easier and there are some skills that we have that aren't very useful that should be replaced. But vendors is the part of the system that is right. Bugs aside I love running a merchant shop. And I never had a shop on Corellia at all and I made a fortune at a small little general store outside of Anchorhead.
If you aren't seeing business then you should look and how you are advertising, what you are selling, and what your prices are because if you get people into your shop and you have good merchandise for a fair price you will be successful. I have started two different shops in this game from the ground up and it isn't that difficult to get business.
My shop is near Coronet, and does fantastic. I love having my shop to sell my Clothing. I have gone so far as to make a "waiting room" which houses my vendors and seating for my customers that are waiting for their orders, and in my second room is a seating area and a "dressing room" for my custom order picks up. So that they can actually try their items on. The back room of my shop is just that... my work shop, housing my crafting stations, and my resources.... People seem to really enjoy it!
Not everyone wants to stay just in town, and many people enjoy shopping while they are out in the field hunting, just stoppng by to see what is for sale.

Back in beta - private vendor stuff showed up on the bazaar - that got cut.
What WOULD work is seperate terminals in town that could list private vendor auctions only - tie it into merchant somehow.
Whether or not you want to include the price - or even make it purchaseable from the terminal is a judgement call - even if it just serves as advertiseing, or lets you buy the waypoint to go visit full vendors, I personally think it would be popular.
We desperately needed vendor listings to stick past reboot - however, that has added to the overcrowded map listing and empty vendor problem.
THAT is advertising.

The empty vendors on the map is a problem. I hope they fix it. One suggestion made by folks around here is to have a vendor remove itself from the map if it has nothing to sell.
