Thread: Best place for shop, in player city /w shuttle or near NPC city with starport
My main shop is located 600 meters south of Coronet, along the river, and the new place I'm about to open will be within spitting distance of a player city shuttleport.
Customers don't always behave as you'd expect. I used to be close to Theed, and got a good trade. I moved into a city, but one which didn't get it's hall. I'm now 3500 meters from anywhere. As that anywhere is Keren, it's not exactly a busy place. I sell more now, out in the middle of nowhere and all. No shuttleport or city there to attract casual visits. Even if the city folds, I was planning to stay. It's a much prettier location than my old one, and sales are doing well. The lack of lag there is also a nice thing.
Personally I'd go for a player city with a shuttleport, and something else to attract visitors. Be it closeness to a point of interest, or many other shops in the city. Just having a shuttleport isn't enough.

I have a simular situation. I was less than 1k from AH and I put a new location up about 1.5k away on the top of a plateau that was supposed to be our city. I get about the same amount of traffic.
The Theed spaceport thing is very nice!
If you are a merchant, I think it behooves you to have as many vendors as you can in as many places as you can afford. I can see why people create a vendor for each general classification of item in the same building. Wider distribution I believe overrides organization. The only case that makes enough sense to be beyond arguing is the sliced/non-sliced goods arrangement.
Man, I wish I could afford the skill points for merchant. ![]()
I would say a player city would be the best bet. Player cities will generate more day to day repeat customers (the residents) than a location with high traffic. Look for one that's well organized and has a good sence of community. (I live and work in Tusken's Bane on Tatooine, Chilastra).
Those of you who have relocated to remote player cities are reaping the benefit of a tight-nit and isolated community. There is less competition and also a desire to "buy local".
Rai
a) near a NPC city with a starport (thinking of Theed since no waiting for starport shuttle)
In this scenario you don't have to switch shuttle but have to run a 1000m or so.
or
b) in a player city with a shuttle.
Have to wait for shuttle (2 stops if you are coming off-planet) but don't have to run that far.
