Thread: Renting out vendors
I've been thinking about this, and have come up with a decent solution imo..
Follow this scenario.. I live on corellia, someone on naboo wants a vendor in his home. I travel to naboo, place the vendor and pay maintenance. From that day on, whenever the crafter wants to sell an item, they offer it to the vendor for a 1 credit, drop an email with the price they want it (or them) sold for.
Now, from my vendor back on corellia, I choose to look at all galaxy wide offers, I accept the offers from naboo that were in the email the crafter sent me, look at my galaxy wide stockroom, and place them for sale on naboo (from my corellia vendor).. At the end of the day, /tip the crafter earnings minus commision or fees.
To make this work really well, perhaps a reduction of tipping bank transaction fees could be added to the efficiency skill list (both to and from the merchant)
The crafter can of course keep track of what items have sold by looking at the vendor.. This scenario does require quite a bit of trust on the part of the crafter, but business is business.. It can turn out to be profitable for both parties.

In SWG, there's no such thing as consignment sales ... at least, not in the game engine. It sort of cripples the idea of Merchant being a reseller.
But it supports the idea of merchants actually "playing" rather than acting as mules that never come into the game, like many current politician characters.
It's really a tough balancing act. I'd love to see easier reselling, but purely passive reselling may do more harm than good to the profession.
