Hi,
I'm in the process of writing a detailed paper on Spamming. I would like to see some of your opinions on the subject, or pros/cons. I appreciate any comments.
Thanks,
X-Rebel

I wouldnt mind the spam if someone people would put a little delay in it.The constant run loop fills my window so fast i cant see anything else other than spam until i ignore. When i domy ad barkeri put it on a 1 to 2 min timer so its not as annoying. Which i hope i helps

i finally gave in and started a spam in coro for my business. my plan of attack: set up in the bank/bazaar area where the spam should be in the first place ... give as much info as possible in a very long stream (i have /yell paragraph x 4 loop to next F-key /auc x 4 /pause 120 loop back to 1st key) ... Im always sure to turn my afk tag on so those with the afk filter active dont have to listen.
Now, since doing this, I have already made 4m credits in 3 days. INSANE jump in business ... I cannot even keep up.
Of course I have a very unique item that I sell ... Star Wars Hero Outfits. In my spam I list all 25 outfits available and the pricing range (16k - 50k). It breaks down like this ...
Para 1 - Items sold on all vendor (general)
Para 2 - Begin list of outfits
Para 3 - End list of outfits
Para 4 - All Hero Outfits are on display at the shop. Simply type /way 960 -3800 just outside of coronet or visit us at http://lryz.tripod.com to see some of the most unique outfits in the galaxy!!! (Simple short - holds all the info the customer really needs ... may intruique them to read the previous 3 paragraphs.)
by not typing /pause between the /yell and /auc ... all 4 para run together in a stream usually with no interuption. the key to spam is to have text that grabs the eye. thank god they took coloring out of spatial messages or we would all be surrounded by rainbows of spam all competing for the most noticable color for advertising lol.

SPAM! I don't like spam!
But really,
Everyone's general idea of SPAM is to spew forth a page of info in yell or shout in front of the Starports with a looping macro while AFK
I myself think if people would break up the general idea and use options, SPAM would be a bit more welcome.
1 Keep it simple.
Base information, Prices,WP, Name of closet port, Nameto contact
2 Slow down
Do not try and get your info out every 30secs.
For popular planets 2 mins is plenty
less visited ones do 5 mins or so between SPAM
3 Keep it local
Do not just /yell or /shout repeatidly,
use /sing if you have any Ent skill, or /say and /whisper
4Keep it localized
Set up to SPAM in the banks or near bazaar where people are actully looking to buy something.
Find spots farthest away from the actual 'port in' so players who enter City are not seeing reels of SPAM before they even load.
5Use AFK
Allow people to have the right to filter out your SPAM
6 Use /auc and /planet
Keeping within same suggestions 1 & 2listed for spatial
7 Merchant Barker Droids
Keep them under them under suggestions1 & 4.
{and rember they store when you JTL Jump, so take public transportation to travel}
I think this should go for Buffers too,
Doc-
Do not stand in front of starport , find a spot out to side.
People know you are there by the line, you do not have to scream about it.
Get to the Med center and have a structure dedicated for your use put to use.
Ents-
In the Cantina, its close quaters for all,
Use say and whisper to talk to those close to you instead of being one competing for the center of attention.
Take some time to pause when you do speak, let people process everything before shoving more out to read.
*oh and use email to advertise! as well as forums.
I myself have a full blown all out advertisment for my shopI send out beforeI even think of standing around macroing
{its clickied in my sig, thelook because you can see}

I like spam, in moderation.
Spambots are cool - they automatically have appropriate spam limits.
Since spambots can't be used while you're actually playing, I set up an afk macro (usually a spam macro) and stand in a different city. Since what you say in the macro is basically unlimited (about as long as you want, as often as you want), you can be more creative, but can also annoy people much more. If you are too annoying, more people will /addignore you. Some people will /addignore you no matter what, but if you're not too obnoxious, most people won't /addignore you.
In most places, I have my spam macro repeat every 2.5 minutes. And I stand off to the side a bit, and use /afk. This way you will annoy people less. I usually don't /say or /shout - you get more viewers if you do speak with a less common command like /retort or /jabber. These text boxes look different. There are lots of choices - so you can be creative.
I would support a change that prevents people from afk spamming and just lets spambots have that ability (anyone who has high level merchant skills has earned the right to advertise with their spambots). But I doubt that will ever happen. Using a 3rd party program, it would just be too easy to get around. I would aslo support a change that lets master (or very high level) merchants have more than one spambot out, like we used to be able to. But I think that's unlikely as well. They're more likely to fix the bug that lets us spam indefinitely without draining droid batteries...
Lastly, as a player, I do like spatial spam over the current alternatives. It's easier for me to visually pick out what I want and what I don't. Email spam is annoying. Forum spam is appropriate, but only hits a limited market.

Keep it short, keep it simple, keep it to the point. The more concise the spam, the slower it goes, and the easier it is for your customer to read. Someone above mentioned they use four paragraphs at once; that would go by so fast that I'd just ignore it rather than scroll up most likely, unless I caught "Hero" and was looking for that. Description is good, just don't let it backfire on you.
I recommend not doing it so fast that someone will ignore you just based on speed.
I personally hate spam and wish we didn't have to resort to it, but it's the only way to advertise in this game, apart from the overhead map, which is only partly effective. I wish there was a solution that would make spam the less effective choice, but I doubt it'll ever happen.
