Thread: Need some advice from my fellow Merchants

Hi all I am a Master Merchant and I need some advice, Right now I am in a player city and it has a shuttle port and has a Mall with vendors and I have been told that I can place a Vendor there, I am resisting the idea of placing a vendor in there , because looking at the other vendors, they are not stocked very well and from watching the traffic it is very very low. I would rather use my house as a showroom but I have been forced to place my house so far out , it just will not do as a showroom. So I asked if I might be able to put up a merchant Tent or move my house to a better location, and basiclly was told no since there was not any more room, but I look around and the Leaders of this Player city have 2 and 3 Showrooms for their personal shops, ( In prime Locations right next to the shuttleport). The city charges 2000 and 10% tax on sales, I am considering just pulling up and leaving and setting up some shops of my own and live outside a player city. I hate to seem like some one who, does not get what his wants and leaves but I just can not think of any other solutions to this problem. If you have any ideas please, I am all ears

Thanks

Sounds like leaving is a good idea - if the leaders of the city want to hog all the best spots, then whatuse are they?

I agree. Moving sounds like a better option. There's no reason you should have to be relegated to a second-class citizen location and situation. It's *your* business that will suffer as well as *your* playstyle. For most merchants it's all about location, location, location, then all the other fun stuff is better too. A low traffic, poorly stocked mall will badly impact your sales and reputation too. A bad location in your city relative to the shuttleport is not good either.

There are lots of other player cities out there that are not full and that might be absolutely delighted to get a dedicated crafter and merchant to move in and set up shop. In a prime location. Many cities now have dedicated merchant shop areas surrounding the shuttleport or in plazas close by. They usually have spots reserved for "future business." Residential and storage areas are reserved on the outskirts.

Try touring a few cities. Look at their layout of merchant and residential areas. Go to the city hall and see who the mayor is. Mail the mayor and ask about their new citizen requirements and merchant preferences and needs. You may find a city much, much more to your liking. And needs.

It's where you want to live, have a shop, and have fun. Interview Mayors and cities. Research to find out if they will offer and support what you need. Remember this: Cities are eager to find good merchants and crafters willing to set up shop. Good Crafters and Shops bring in traffic and credits and more citizens. It is *you* the crafter/merchant who is the prize. Go find out who best deserves to "win" you.

edit: Oh, I see your server is Gorath. Hmm. I really like the city I live in there. Mos Exile, Tatooine. Send the Mayor a mail or tell. Her name is Lucy. She would be most happy to answer questions. And Exile is *very* merchant oriented. She could be your first interview. Best of luck to you!

I'd pack up and move. There are plenty of player cities just dying to get you to move in. Shop around and find one that will let you place your house in a premium location to sell your wares.

Sounds like the cityleaders have acontrol problem. It's no wonder no one visits their mall. If you're not happy with the game, make it better by packing up and moving to abetter city.

Thanks for the advice I think I am going to pack up, and move on. My game play style is almost 100% crafting ( aside from surveying for resources) and managing my little enterprise. I find it challanging and alot of fun for me, some people like to kill things and exploring , I love to craft nothing makes me happier then to make items for people and have a well stocked andniceshowroom. So now I will be looking for a new place to call home.

Thanks Again

Go to the Galaxy forum and post you are looking to move. You will get plenty of offers. Go to a city that wants you.

be sure to email the mayor and inform him of your reason for leaving. do not present it as an ultimatum, but just as this was my issue, no resolve came of it, so i am finding my self in a position where i must move on, maybe it will help you to deal better with future citizens kinda thing.

There is a happy ending to this story I interveiwed 3 cities last night and found a nice Player run city. They made me feel right at home and went out of their way to make sure I got what I was looking for, To that end I now have a very nice place next to the shuttleport and if I want I may place a vendor in the nice mall they have less then 40 feet from the shuttle. I did have to move my operations from Naboo and move to LoK but with JTL and the new shuttle times this is not a issue for people for the most part. Its amazing how much different the city is run shops, Merchant tents and Bank all close to the shuttleport and the homes to the outside on the edges of the city. I knew I had a good place when I asked if there was a way to get a merchant tent near the shuttleport only to have the Mayor say not to worry if I got to pull up the garage and move it I will make room for you, hey thats just too nice and in my book just more then I can ever hope for. And to top it off the mayor placed street lamps near my tent just to make sure people could see me in the dark ( she was worried that people would not notice me) I could not ask for more and am very pleased in my new home and new guild. Thanks for the advice and help guys

I'm very happy for you that this worked out. I've been playing for nearly a year, and have yet to join with a player city or a guild for any length of time. The only guild I was in did the same thing to me, put my house way out in the back where nobody would be able to see it. Needless to say, I didn't last long and ended moving to the outskirts of Theed. If a player city really wants crafters, they'll do what they can to make sure that we're seen. Good luck
