Thread: How do I get merchant experience?
Trying to place a vendor, but I'd like to have NPC vendors instead of those big machine vendors. So, how do I actually merchant exp?
Thanks
Anian
Merchant XP (comes in lumps, sometimes broken):
- 150 XP per hour per vendor
- 50 XP per view of vendor by person per hour or so
- 50 XP per visitor if you charge an Entry Fee
- NO XP for purchases ... none ... zip
My theory is that merchant xp is driven more by the maintenence you pay for vendors than anything else at this point (ie. its broken like so many other things). Therefore if you are using npc vendors with the broken low maintence values, you will be getting very little merchant xp.
At any rate, it is a slow process - I run a popular shop with 4-6 of my own vendors and with hundreds of customers coming in daily, the xp still just trickles in.

Well ... good guess but to be honest I'm not sure this is why
I am pure NPC vendors with6 of them(would use them even if they weren't bugged since I am a tailor). And I will sometimes get XP as it is intended ... but then I will get in the no-XP mode for days with nothing changing on my part from one situation to the next.
So to me, it seems to be when the server does it's daily reset ... the gremlins in the merchant XP code roll the dice to see if I get any XP that day. Somedays I am lucky ... somedays I am not ![]()
This is not true. I maxed out my experience in no time with just NPCs.

Just curious, but what is "in no time". Everything is relative so its hard to quantify that.
I seem to get about 10k merchant xp per day with just NPCs, I am nearly to master after about 6 weeks, so that is decent advancement. But for a while I was running an extremely popular encoded tranmission disk vendor on a terminal and it seemed to increase the amount of xp I was getting to around 20-30k xp per day. Now I recently moved that vendor to an NPC becausethe 500k worth of merchandise on itwas killing me in maintence, and since the change, Iseem to beback to the lowerdaily xpeven though the vendor itself is busier than ever.
I dunno, everything is so inconsistent, it is very hard to track anything reliably, like I said, it was just a theory ![]()
Can you tell me how your encoded transmission disk vendor works? I'm very interested.
