I was thinking as i was wondering thru the ghost town part of Theed (which is basicaly 85% of the town). you have all these buildings and there just useless, nobody hangs out around them. Everyone just hangs out in front of the main Space Ports (Theed and Coronet) all the crafters scramble to get therehouses setup as close to these space ports as they can so people will see there shops as they leave the cities).
Anyways I know the Dev's think there is to much money floating around in the game and came up with an Idea.
Why not make some of the buildings inside the NPC cities such as Theed and add control panels to the individual rooms inside to create spaces where merchants could setup shop. Only Master Merchants would be able to setup shop in these spaces and the rent would be on the high side as it should be because of location. And this would help remove some of the money from the game since rent would be paid to the game.
To me this makes sense and we would see more people hanging out thru out the city instead of just 1 spot. I think this would also make non merchant crafters want to sell there goods to master merchants to sell in the premium spots. We could do this by allowing merchants to give admin permission on there venders to these players. In return the Master Merchant would get a percentage (which he would set) of all sales from that vender.
So as a break down
1) add control panels to the individual rooms in a building (within the existing NPC cities), that way several merchants could setup shop in the same building.
2) allow merchants to give admin permission to there vender so they could allow a crafter to stock the vender themselves, in return the merchant would get percentage of sales. (Note: merchant would have to set the percentage before giving admin permission, once admin permission is set, he would not be able to change the percentage).
We could also allow Architects to make strip mall buildings for player cities also with the owner of the building getting the rent. Also on player bulidings anyone could rent out a room, but on NPC buildings you would have to be a Master Merchant.
What do you guys think?
If this idea was already thought up, sorry i'm new to the boards

Yeah Ive thought of something along the same line for a long time . They could let us put shops in buildings , or put up shops like the junk dealers do under tents . We could rent them and rent them out to others , if that makes any sense . I think it would be a vary good idea , and it would make the game more "Starwarzy" I think . A giant market place, something the Dev should do .

Yes, that would be awesome. Unfortunatley, I dont want this idea, but it would have to be established, you would have to pay rent. With out it, one person could get all the buildings at once.

It's a super idea, yes. It's just that the only reason at all to mess with player towns, RP aside, is to have a shuttle near a gathering of shops. That would kind of scrap that. /shrug

They could set it up so only 1 shop per merchant on each NPC city. that way 1 merchant could not control all the rooms in a NPC building...
Biggest problem we have now is you can spend literaly hours riding around to all these venders spread out across the map looking for stuff, and when you finally get there the venders are empty most of the time. This idea would bring all the major merchants who keep a steady supply of goods to one location so people could easily find what they needed. You could also have imperial troops wondering around the shopping areas of the bigger cities like theed and bestinescanning people to make sure there not buying contraband goods such as spcies and sliced armor/weapons. This would make smugglers sell there goods outside the cities which is the way it should be.

True but almost nobody shops at player cities to begin with. One reason is extreamly poor design of city layout, you get lost looking for stuff. I swear nobody thinks about how to layout a city, they just start dropping buildings everywhere. Its a mess, you have residential mixed in with commercial buildings(there are a few exceptions).
Player cities can still compete, figure if rent is high in the NPC cities then those merchants would be required to make sure they sell there items at a premium to cover cost, which most would be willing to pay for convience. Now the Player cities could setup shopping areas with cheaper prices for those who want a bargin which they would be able to do because they wouldnt have the high rent....
these are just some rough ideas... but would be cool and make life alot easier... and make it feel little more like star wars, its dumb that they say Karen (on naboo)is the hub of all commerence but when you go there its a ghost town...
