Step 1: Craft something.
Step 2: List it on your vendor for 2 million+ cr.
Step 3: Wait for it to sell.

the best way to do this is to have hundreds of millions of credits worth of stuff on your vendor. think about it. a grocery store with 500k in inventory wouldn't expect to do sales of 500k in a day... they might do 500k/3 months.. depending on how fast they flip their inventory. the best bet to do millions in business... is to list 100's of millions worth of things on your vendors. having a steady base of customers is great too.

Have something people want. armor / weapons / resources. Make sure you have a good location, then advertise on the bazaar. My sales were horrible until I started advertising.

First thing to remember is that you're not going to get those sales overnight. It will take advertising, and I don't mean spamming starports either.
Use the trade boards, word of mouth is a great advertising tool, which is highly dependant on your customers. Get to know them and form relationships with them, they'll send more business your way than 20 starport spammers as long as you take care of them.

I have had success a few different ways:
1) Spamming. Mad a ton of money but stopped because spam is REALLY annoying.
2) Location. Very important. I located myself in with highly regarded vendors that got a lot of traffic.
Haven't advertised since and money rolls in.
3) Forum advertising. Both in signature and by placing a notice in the trade forum when something good comes along.
4) Barking. Have your vendors announce what you have to sell. Somebody may have come in for something completely different and then hear you mention the thing they've been wanting for a month but haven't gotten around to buying.
5) Desirable products. I try to stick to a small number of popular items, and I try to always be stocked.
Good luck.
