Back when I did merchant it was very lucrative but to tell you the truth the Vendor system on SWG is pretty much their worst aspect. The sad thing is that it is so simple to fix but that fix has never been applied.

I believe that a few simple things that could be introduced at the Master Merchant Level would do wonders to fix up Crafting, pricing and the general economics of the game.

1 - Player Vendors need to have the capacity to be connected somehow in a grander sense to the economy at large.

1 - a Proposed Solution part 1 - Make a skill mid way through Merchant where vendors which are nearest to the major city they are near would show up in the bazaar and other connected vendors. This would enable people in coronet to browse materials in stores within say,,, 1200m.

1 - b Proposed Solution - Make a skill at Master Merchant that would enable vendors to (for a sizable weekly fee) tie into the planetary bazaar system so that the materials on their own personal vendors would show up when people searched for goods on a particular planet. Materials on vendors of the same type would be viewable from any similarily plugged in vendor.

BENEFIT those people who are master merchants and master craftsmen

Allow someone who is a CURRENT master Merchant and a CURRENT master (insert crafting class) here to place their own vendors (of the type they are master current class) onto the Galaxy system so that searches that are galaxy wide would be reflected here.

Merchants would then truely be in the business of making their wares more viable, visible and advertised in a meaningful way. A more true economy would form and there would be no question as to what a merchant had on their vendor and how that stacked up against the quality/price of other merchants vendors.

This is an idea I've been tossing around in my head for some time now but I thought I'd put it up on the board to see how badly I'd get flamed or if people would agree with me on this one.

Thanks

I'm going off your proposal 1a, and some other comments I've seen. What if there was a Mall structure created. In that structure, you had a terminal that connected all vendors in the mall.

Kinda seems redundant to place vendors, then have a single terminal for everyone to shop from. It would just make things a lot simplier for people shopping though. The terminal in the mall would act like a directory, but since malls aren't 1/4 mile long and 5 stories high, it could be used for people to buy from all the different vendors.

Good thinking though. Even as a merchant myself, I hate having to go to vendor after vendor to look for items.

When SWGwas in beta, vendor items were listed on the bazaar. There was a problem with it though since the bazaar couldn't specify whether the item was actuallyon the bazaar, or near by on someone's vendor.

For example:Someone in Theedwould see something they want, and it's listed on the bazaar in Theed. They buy it, but instead of retreiving the item, the email states that it's on some vendor 2000 meters away ina shop near Theed. This was before vehicles and very few peoplewore armor so it was a long and dangerous trip.

Rather than fixing the problem bychanging the range filter (or adding a new filter), the dev's just removed the option all together.

I agree the bazaar needs to be fixed, but the dev's have already answered this request by removing this feature all together. Maybe it will come back some day, but I'm not holding my breath.

It would be as simple as putting in a different font or an additional field or marking on the item in the bazaar. The interesting thing about al of this is the simplicity of the proposed solution.

I dont think it would even be that hard at the bazaar level to allow people to sort objects by vendorname to prevent situations where people have to scroll through 20000 items to find a top of the line piece. As a former weaponsmith/merchant what annoyed me the most was that in order to build up a good customer base, I needed to resort to barker droids and harassing people at starports. In short I had to become 'one of those guys'.

I would suspect the Dev team might have pulled this functionality since it would be very resource intensive to have thousands of people doing that kind of querying on the database at once but,,, we pay a monthly fee.

I'm overall happy that they've fixed some of the more nasty merchant exploits, but I'd just love to see them actually implement this systems. Heck, if it was done right, true master merchants could play proper rolls of 'middle men' for example. Actual trading could be possible.

Oh well, just a thought that would change, I think for the better, the Merchant profession

My understanding is that it was also too much for the fragile SWG item database.
