I went to Naboo this morning, to check a guild hall issue. While there, I thought I'd look for some Brandy, since I'm running low. I brought up the planetary map, clicked on the vendor tab, and... besides one or two vendors, the only ones showing up were junk dealers. The map looked empty. My only guess, since I don't see any bug brought up on the forums regarding a map-registration problem, is that merchants have all given up their advertising tree, or at least turned off registration.
The current vendor search system is cumbersome, and a pain to use. Thus, if they don't change it, people would stop using it and (as I tried to do) use the old methods of finding vendors. This, I hoped, would convince the developers to change the system.
Instead, with people giving up their planetary map advertising, what we instead will likely see is customers using the vendor search because they have no other option. Will this incite change to the system? It's possible, but I can see the developers thinking, "All those people are using it, and the merchants turned off their other advertising, so it must be alright as it is."
(Of course, if this was just a bug, I'll be very embarassed.)

One thing to remember..registered vendors don't show on map until they are loaded.
So if someone took time to register for overhead veiw and pay the extra maint,
they would have to log in every mon and load the vendors intto the world for it show.

One reason I pop on every morn myself

Yep. Used to have to do that every day when server resets were daily. Now, every time the server's been down, I log in first thing and run all over town entering shops so people's vendors will load in and appear on the global map lists and on the overhead map. It's one of the little things I do as Mayor there.

And why so many merchants prefer a mall over an own store. There is always someone popping in after server restart.

"pink protocol droid" sounds sillier than "salmon protocol droid" therefore he remains pink.

That completely leaves out the vital information that he is a protocol droid. If he were a mouse droid there wouldn't be any issue with him being a mute. Its the protocol part that makes it really stupid.
Sheesh..
