Can i drop Register Vendor (3xxx)and be on the galaxywide vendor search? Or do i need to keep it.
Reason being i was thinking about dropping some merch to put points elsewhere, but am unsure of what the req is to be able to be on galaxy search.
If my thinking is correct, and we dont need Register for it, then it totally killed the point of Register. 
any insight on this?

You don't need any merchant skills for the galaxy-wide vendor search.

I believe (3-x-x-x) is planetary advertising. If you drop it, you can't advertise your vendor on the planetary map. Global vendor search is available to anyone that has a vendor.

Planetary Advertising is still very important IMHO.
I don't know how many times I have personally been driving around and saw something on the map that catches my eye and stopped in to look.
