Thread: What is the best way for a merchant to sell others items?
Can somebody please tell me what thebest way to sell other players items on your vendors.
As we are doing it now in our city, if somebody wants to sell something, they put it as an offer to the vendor for 1 credit, and sends an email to our merchant, about what the price for the item should be. Then he puts it up for sale, and when theitem is sold, he gives the money to the person that "sold" the item.
Is there a better way to do this? It seams like a lengthy procedure and if the merchant tips the seller the cash, he loses 5% of it. How does a merchant earn money?

When one of their items sells, I look at the email then I wrote down in my notebook the item, price, date, etc. Every once in a while I'll open up my Excel file and then copy the vendor sales information into the file. Once I finish, I upload it to the internet so the crafter can see what the sales were like and how much I owe them. Then, next time I see them I give them the money. Either that or they offer a worthless item to the vendor for the amount I owe them.
Here is a link to an example of my excel program.

A buddy of mine sells my resources. So, I offer a 100k chunk of something for 3 credits. That means that I want him to sell it for 3per unit, or 300k. 3.5per unit, I offer it to the vendor for 35 credits. It's easy that way. He just forwards me the sales emails and pays me when he sees me. It works nice that way.

I then add a markup (percentage for most items, fixed amount for resources) and sell it from there.
Thanks to the ever present Sales Tax on Offers "feature" for player cities, the products actually get marked up 3 times: Sales Tax, my markup, and Sales Tax again on the final total.
Keep in mind, doing it this way requires you to have money up front. In my case, the guild leader gave me part of his current inventory, and I also had some cash on hand from what I made on Bazaar sales.
