Thread: Questions : Need Answers
First off: I am NOT a holo-grinder, i think that the Jedi is a waste of time, etc. I have many questions, because I am curious to know if my profession combination will work out, and....just read on
.
1. Would this combination work well? Master Tailor and Master Merchant. If so, what other profession should I become in order for some combat skills.
2. Considering I am on the Ahazi server, is this a good server for merchants? Or is Bloodfin a good server?
3. How is the Merchant profession, is it broken? Worth while? Fun?
4. How long did it take you to Master Merchant? *4/4/4/4*
5. When you become a merchant, does it allow you to 'create' stuff, or only allow you to place fees, vendors, etc. Any draft schematics. I am asking this because If your a merchant, what if you have all other combat skills, and only basic schematics, what would you sell? *This does not apply to me, i am a tailor.*
That is all! I look forward to your answers! Thanks!

Welcome to the world of Supply/Demand and wholesale/retail.
1) Merchant/Tailor is a fine choice, but it does leave one lacking in the Combat area. Myself, I decided on Merchant/Smuggler as it gives one the pistol skills as well as the retail tools needed to keep this Smuggler off of the local Starport Streetcorner.
2) Im on Sunrunner and as such have no useful input for your server of choice, but I am certain every Server needs consistant Merchants versus the hologrinder that is here today gone tomorrow, but leaves empty vendors in thier wake.
3) As for the Merchant class being worthwhile or broken, this debate continues and will proceed into the future infinite. I myself enjoy the Merchant aspect, I purchase from Artisans and Smiths, slice what I can, markup the remainder and make a fair (virtual) living. I am fortunate to be associated with a large and active Player association on Sunrunner and manage our City Mall and Open Air Bazaar. I am a casual player and therefore it suits my schedule as well as my playstyle. Your results may vary as the Merchant Class is exactly what one puts into it.
4) For me Merchant came quickly, but again quickly is a speculative term. Merchant XP is totally dependant on vendorsand location and therefore the more vendors in a populated area, the faster the Merchant XP comes. In my experiences, placing a entry fee on a building is a sign to potential customers to go somewhere else. Even if the fee is 1 credit, most players (who do not know you that is) will pass your establishment in lieu of one who doesn't, Again, this is based on my experiences coming up through the merchant tree. Your results may vary, Some assembly required, yada yada yada. The bottom line is Merchant xp is directly affected my number of vendors and location.
5) The Merchant profession allows you to create and place up 6 vendors max. is lowers some of your costs for bazaar fees and some other fees, it allows you maximum flexibility as far as your vendors, in other words, although the actual LOOK of the vendor is random, you have MANY races to choose from. you can dress your vendors as you choose as well as arm them (totally for looks and you lose anything you give the vendor to wear or to hold so be advised.) and you can customize what your vendors say to anyone that comes within the vendors ad bark radius (this is both a useful tool as well as a bothersome ability as a vendor will turn to face said customer even if the customer is OUTSIDE the building just running past your establishment.) You can also register your vendors on the Planetary Map, but be advised that registering more than one vendor per location makes the signs overlap rendering them useless. Use this abilitywith caution.
In all, as I stated before, I enjoy the Merchant aspect and it adds to my playtime experience, otherwise I wouldn't do it. there are pluses and minuses to every profession and the Merchant Class is not perfect. but one of the best things I enjoy about SWG overall is the flexibility to experience all of the classes without actually creating a totally new character to do it.
Hope this helps answer some of your questions and most important, get out there and enjoy yourself.
Thank you for your nice, long answer! I loved it! Hmm....I worked so hard for CH, and im not sure if i want to give it up. How does this sound....
