Greetings (Not sure if anyone really remembers me)
I am tring to get caught up on the merchant thing....
So I ask, is there any talk about delisting vendors with nothing on them from the map. I notices that you do not loss vendors when you sell back the points, so there are vendors EVERYWHERE, but most have nothing on them.
Doc?

LOL, i searched 14 vendors today looking for a resource i needed. I rarely shop for resources, and this is the reason why.
14 vendors was a good day, ive searched 30-50 vendors before looking for armor, weapons, chef food, smuggler items, etc........Planet to planet and 75% of the vendors are bare or rarely have anything useful on them.
Its a shame some crafers and merchants ( and fake merchants) do not have the responsibility or care about this.

Yep. A lot of people advertise everything and have nothing. They are just in it for the merchant xp. One sure sign that a person is grinding merchant happens when you try to walk into a shop and they charge 1 credit to enter. I just turn right around cause I know there won't be anything worthwhile inside.

Everday i put 100+ items of armor on my vendor. I don't think the empty vendors should get the same advertsiing fame as me and my stocked vendors.

They could list quantity of items on the vendor, or list an average price per item on the vendor. Or better yet they could create a player rating system for world map listed vendors, so when a player comes upon an empty vendor or a vendor that has none of its advertised products, then can give it a poor rating which would be reflected in an overall score on the world map.
They could also report transaction volumes for a given vendor on the world map.
Or they could create a rating system that was based on how many people visited the vendor and how many actually made a purchase. Say you had a rating of 100 which would represent that every single person who visited this vendor made a purchase. A rating of 50 would show that 1 out of every 2 people that visited made a purchase, and so on. That would allow upstarts a chance to show they have something to offer, without being marginalized by higher volume, more established vendors.

Alas, the Merchant profession is besieged with problems. This is a rough one. There is a player who cancelled his account, but has enough money paid in maintenance for buildings and vendors that these structures have been up for over 3 months(since he cancelled his account). His vendors are empty, but they still advertise. I suspect he no longer has merchant, but has all these things in place should he return to JTLS.
It is hard to grind merchant, and setting up mutilple vendors (empty) helps gain points. What to do?
1.) Actual sales should be the only way to get exp points. This prevents empty vendors, and those grinding will either have to craft something, mine something, or find wholesalers to sell stock. So chance cubes sitting at 99999999 do nothing if they are not sold. This can be set sales/hour to control leveling if need be.
2.) Let me beat this dead old horse again, but I must say it - if you do not have merchant trained, you do not have vendors, let alone overhead advertising. If the devs get to this, many of the worthless vendors will go *poof*.
3.) Cancelled accounts should not have active vendors. I think all building structures should go poof in one month if an account is cancelled. If you pay your monthly $$$$, then fine.
4.) Vendors by skilled merchantsthat have no sales for a month (as an example)automatically get removed from over head advertising until restocked. I am hoping those of us who retain merchant skills are active sellers, and this is not where the problem is. This works for those on long vacations or with other RL issues that keep them from stocking vendors for a period of time. This could work for cancelled accounts as well.
I am a Master Merchant and I would never leave an empty vendor up. As a master, it is easy to remove a vendor and replace it as needed - the beauty of having the skills! Just some ideas...

Only problem is... whats to stop someone from making a Chance Cube and puttting it up 9999999 credits? Thats all they have to throw up and theres another empty vendor for 30 days.

Most fool proff way of people not cheating the system would be the ability to send in a report of these people stocking their chance cubes for 999k and keeping their vendor on the map and being a childish person too
