Thread: Hiring bodyguards and selling schematics.
Two things I thought would be interesting for this class to have. Let me know what you think of these ideas.
1. Hiring - Under hiring Merchants should be able to perchase Mercenaries or Bodyguards to protect them. They'd cost money and would disappear after a period of time. They could be hired at a terminal like the Bounty Hunter Droid terminal. As skill in hiring goes up you can perchase stronger bodyguards, who last longer and have multiple guards. Perhaps you could also choose the time of guard from Carbineer to Swordsman.
2. Limited use schematics. Let merchants craft schematics that no other class has. These would cover everything from weapons, to droid parts, to food and, furniture. THese schematics could be sold to various professions that can craft stuff who then if they have enough skill can create the items from 1-5 times. Schematics would show up in the schematic list just as the schematic quests do .
These are some good ideas.
However,
1. By having NPC bodyguards takes away the potential of hiring a player mercenary. There are player warriors out there that love to do escort missions for merchants and crafters. Makes you able to create your own missions, and doesn't limit such things. It's an RPG game, we should be able to make our own missions/services.
2. I'm not sure limited use schematics for special items would really fit into the merchant profession. Although this is a great idea, I think it is better suited for crafters since merchants aren't really supposed to make items... only sell them.
- I think a good idea would be for someway for merchants to be able to rent vendors to crafters so instead of maintenance fees being paid by the crafters, the fee goes to the owner merchant. ... I just thought of this now, so I might make another thread about it later. This might make the merchant class better, and still allow crafters to have their own vendors.
The schematics idea is more that the merchant sells it to artisans but doesnt make it themselves. Just so they have unique things that they can actually sell so that people will seek them out.
This and Bodygurads would add a little more meat to the elite profession and would let more people seek to be one instead on just getting enough skills to have a vendor.
Now that gambling is up they should be able to set gambling terminals. Set a certain amount of cash a merchant must pay. that is the jackpot IF someone wins. If they dont then the merchant can pocket the excess cash.
It just makes more sense in that players who take merchant usually have other artisans skills to actually have something to sell. This really cuts into combat (protection) skils.
THere are many others things merchants should get too thogh. They should get discounted shuttle and starport tickets. See it as they have monthly tickets intstead of one time tickets. THough I wonder if starships once they are out make this not matter at all. Hopefully merchants wil be able to set up vendors in their ships (assuming you can get big ships not just fighters) and can travel the galaxy selling stuff.
Maybe you can hire wingman to protect your ship.
