Thread: Why are prices so low.
I know the econy is in its infancy, but why are prices so low ??
10k for a house - make it more like 30-40k for a small house please !!
Let's look at it from another angle.
How long does it take for a combat character to get 10k to buy a house 1-2 hours tops (I've heard 10k being given for 1 destroy mission) ??
ok, How long does it take to make a small house ?? 5-6 hours plusincluding resource gathering etc ???
So, given that why should a small house not cost 30-40, hell even 50k ??
I think merchants and crafters need to get together and re-evaluate the worth of money in the game, and make people pay fair, reasonableprices for items - put a value on the time you spent making it, don't just calculate it in terms of 5cresd per resource or whatever most people seem to do.. (oh yeah - high vendor maintenance is just making this issue worse!!)
Prices are low due to the massive competiton. Many people sell at break even or lower prices.
Yesterday I saw a small style 2 naboo house deed for sale on the bazaar. Price : 3000 ( which of course is the current bazaar max - supposed to be 10000 max )
There are a LOT of artisans, and the competition on the "early level" items that can be crafted is fierce.
Some therefore adjust the prices down, until they essentially give items away, just so they can sell it at all instead of destroying it.
Too many producers compared to consumers. This will eventually correct itself. I do NOT sell items for less than they are worth. And I sell more for every passing day. I make a point of never selling inferior items, and never dumping stuff. Everything I sell is the best I can make. Even if I have to spend costly resources redoing them until they meet my standard.
And this is paying off.
Eventually, people selling at a loss, never actually making money of their craft will be out of the market. People selling inferior stuff, even at bargain prices, can never stay afloat in the long run when competing with determined crafters who establish a name for themselves with good products.
So keep working at your skill. Do money missions if you have to, but dont sell at a loss. Show some professional pride and sell for what you know it is worth ![]()

If you are the first Architecht on your server, 15-20k for small house was doable. When you are the 40th on your planet alone, and everybody has a small house just to stuff their junk in, 5k becomes the norm. Its called 'surplus' in economics---when a particular item loses its novelty due to over supply. So basically, you need to ask Architects to stop making houses entirely so they increase in value. Which is not going to happen.
Novelty allows for high prices. Banality lowers it--fact of life, and of gaming. Strike while the iron is hot and then retire if you can
The fortunes of the world don't always go to who made the better item, but who made that item FIRST.
I make a killing on these architects bottom feeding. I buy small houses for as low as 2000!!!and I turn around and sell them for 15k. I dont mind them selling for less cause I have the patience and I can make a huge profit on them. 13k for holding onto a deed for 24 hours is well worth it. I bought 10 houses for about 30k and sold 8 of them for 15k each within 24 hours! Great profit. I will easily sell the other 2 this weekend.
So I continue to work on DE, but to keep things going I am buying stuff cheap that people are selling as they level up, then selling it for profit. This keeps my harvestors maintained, and gives me merchange xp!
Let people sell low. If you don't like it buy it and sell it back. That is how the economy works, and use it to your advantage.
"I've seen 3K houses on the Bazaar sit there for 3 or 4 days til someone bought it. People just don't realize that people will have to WANT a house in order to buy it."
If I saw a house on the bazaar selling for that low, I would be very suspicious since deeds can be renamed but the pictures all look the same. You might just be buying a personal harvester. Seems like a lousy trick just for a measly 3K but there are people out there doing it. I really hope they implement more info in the examine screen for deeds.

After you buy it, set it up to check. If it is truly a small house, it'll cost you 800cr to redeed it. If it's a small harvester, report the guy for scaming. That should be a bannable offense. No warning, no slap on the wrist, just the boot. I'd even double bill them for their last month if it was me.
It's better to spend the 800cr to check then get pegged as a scammer yourself.

Actually, there *isn't* competition for Small Houses.
People think that dropping the price from 15K to 2K will help sell quicker....the fact of the matter is that you're going to sell at 15K OR 2K...however, you're going to have to wait until someone WANTS a house to do so. Either way, you're going to wait.

Items are not like candy bars at a store...$0.50 for an impulse buy ofa Hershey Bar is one thing...buying a house is another.
One more thing to add...that's why we have Merchants. ![]()
In Everquest, a LOT of people made fortunes just by market speculating....they'd buy items that were priced low, and re-sell them at a higher price. 500 plat here, 1000 plat there...in tthe end, that would add up. It takes time, of course it does, but the benefits are very worthwhile. I supported all of my crafting addiction in Everquest solely through market speculation. I turned my first 5,000 plat into 10K plat...and soon after, I was buying Fungi Tunics by the 2s and 3s, and re-selling them later for lots more cash.
A re-selling, well-advertised Merchant, is going to make cash...even I was looking around for things like an Equipment Factory on several peoples' vendors.
